US sponsor checks being paid fastly in Canada Banks?

I am going to Canada and I would like to convert some of my low amount checks into cold hard cash. How much time it takes in Canada to get paid for US check and what are the fees?

Banks in my country charges at least 10-15usd per check, so it doesnt make much sense to use them for 40-50usd checks and I have a lot of them :-(

depends on you account balance and amount of time you have been dealing with the bank. If this is your first deposit expect the check to be held for 15-21 business days.

Most CDN banks will also hit you for about $10 charge for USA checks.

For someone coming from abroad cashing a check, I'd expect a minimum of a 30 day hold and needing lots of ID.
