Web hostings - EVERYONE who uses Apache - Step Inside Please!

So I stumble across this graph... what is the deal with Zeus and if it's so great, why isn't every hosting provider offering it?

Because it is not free and few customers will spring for it.

sandman! 07-12-2008 05:05 PM

because most people are too cheap to pay for it ?

Iron Fist 07-12-2008 05:06 PM

So no hosting provider would spring for a virtual server using ZEUS and offset the costs that way to show how much better it is? I'm sure once a few customers had a taste of its performance, which offset the amount of hardware you would require - they would want a dedicated box with it installed :)

i know of a few that use lighspeed which is another alternative to apache similar to zeus but lightspeed dont like adult sites so you will never hear about it.

I'm just curious to really see if its that much better than apache.

yes it is but most people rather spend the $60-$100 a month or whatever it costs on more ram or a quicker cpu :2 cents::2 cents:

How much is Zeus?

WiredGuy 07-12-2008 05:41 PM

Free is good enough for most people.

I searched their site and I couldn't find pricing anywhere... and when that happens you know it's going to be so bloody expensive that it's not worth it for small business... :2 cents:

what did you think it was $50 or some shit like that ?

qxm 07-12-2008 05:52 PM

mmm ... we need a hosting provider to clarifiy the costs/benefits of Zeus over Apache..... and do they even offer it?.......

Couple hundred actually.... but still. That's way too steep considering the alternative. :warning

i doubt any hosts that post here offer it since most people are used to apache and it being free and wont spend $$$$$ on a webserver.

directfiesta 07-12-2008 08:24 PM

Maybe for mainstream, but for adult there are not enough $$$ left on the table to even consider it.

Maybe Dreamhost could ....

directfiesta 07-12-2008 08:26 PM

and I once offered virtual accounts on a box with http://www.lighttpd.net/ , and got so much headaches that I took it offline.

Headaches were not from the software, but from a few clients that were always bitching.

We are not going to re-invent the wheel ....:2 cents:

baddog 07-12-2008 08:30 PM

So, if we added it to a virtual server, would you be willing to pay more?
