What is the allure of GMAIL for you?
I see lots of webmasters using GMAIL accounts. As a webmaster isn't it better to have your email tied to a domain that you fully control or are people mostly using it as a sort of filter for their business communications?
I know what the allure of gmail is for me but I just wanted t see what it is for you and what sort of ways people use it. I use it as an SMTP for outbound emails on my iphone over EDGE and even WIFI when I am on different networks.... http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...70711124131866 I have seen some people use it for online storage as well.... http://www.engadget.com/2005/03/01/h...l-file-server/ |
I have email accounts with most of the free providers, but use Zenbe to keep them all organized in one spot.

I get hammered with spam on my domains email...and spamassassin rapes the email so much, spam gets through more often than legit emails..
I like gmail because of the conversation feature. |
I like Gmail because it's always there, stable and no matter which ISP I use, my e-mail never needs to change, even for my own domains.
|
Spam folder works like a charm for me and Thunderbird rocks as well...
|
I convert to 2 mail about 2 years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done regarding my productivity.
1. Awesome spam filter. 2. Global Access 3. IMAP support (great for iPhone) 4. I included other accounts 5. But the best part for me is the massive amount of storage that I can keep and search. I worked with roughly 40 women. With Gmail I've not deleted an email in 2 years (expect spam messages) and I'm still only at 15% of my storage. The fact I can search this email for messages I previously sent to people is one of the best features for me. |
gmail works pretty flawlessly for me
seems like email I send from my own domains gets caught up in spam filters more often |
I use it as a last-ditch backup. Add a gmail account to bcc to have records available - anywhere, anytime.
|
It's awesome for all the reasons described already...
I just laugh at dummies who don't use web-based email, and are telling me how they have too much spam, can't log in, etc. But for some reason they're afraid of gmail. |
Gmail is pretty cool awesome spam filter, mobile phone access, storage space, organization features and filters, etc.
I normallt give out my domain address and just foward them to a gmail account |
You are gmail addicts :1orglaugh
I still prefer using my own POP3 email box and keep all messages on my notebook, though I have a gmail account too :thumbsup |
GMail works ok, i forward the mail to my Fastmail account
All the mail from my domains go thru Spamarrest first to cut off the spam and then also to Fastmail |
search and storage.
|
Search is a great feature.
|
Read Receipt
Does anyone know how to request a Return Receipt when you send email to someone using Gmail ??? This is pretty important for business accounts..
|
it was "free" ...
|
I have all my [email protected] forwarding to gmail accounts. Their spam filter is 99.9% perfect, and I don't know how I'd operate without being able to google search through the thousands of emails I get. When I went overseas for a couple months, where there was no wifi, I continued all my support duties from crappy little internet cafes and noone knew the difference.
|
i like to let google read my email
|
1. Storage space
2. "look & feel" |
Why I ♥ Gmail (Google Mail to Foreigners)
They're are probably more reasons.. but you know. |
I've found that AOL, ATT and Bellsouth accounts are blocked from my Mindspring (Earthlink) account - but gmail gets through. It also has, IME, the best spamblocker out there.
|
Gmail has the best spam control of anything I've tried. (short of the programs that force people to "register" to send you email)
I have email through my domains as well, but I use gmail to fetch and filter it for me. |
50% of my outsource employees use gtalk
|
All your emails belong to google.

They even share it with the government. |

The best spam filters - period.

Gmail makes me think of Gangsters. Like Whattup G?
GangsterMail. That's why I do it. |
You can have it both ways.
Google will host your MX services, which lets you use Gmail AND have it be your own domain with complete control over the addresses and boxes that are setup, forwarding, etc. Anything you could do via your normal host except without paying the bandwidth for all of that spam that it bounces. |
I also like the spam recipes that adwords displays when I'm looking through my spam folder.
|
SPAM is an issue with my work account but Gmail has pretty powerful SPAM filters. Plus it's Google so you can use their really cool online services. I know some people find the fact that Google knows way too much about us unnearving, but personally I couldnt give a fuck what they know!
Access to their web services (docs, calendar, etc...) is enough of a trade off. |
I use GMail because of the amount of storage space I get, the fact that I trust Google and consider their service to be reliable and also because of its excellent ability to filter spam.
|
The best thing is that it's virtually unspammable.
No other anti-spam feature comes close to gmail. |
