Neighbor asked me to help him jumpstart his car. Told him to fuck off.

Helping someone to jumpstart their car is a great way to fuck up your alternator, fuses, and half your electrical system.

Only idiots help people jumpstart cars. There's a reason AAA exists. If they can't afford $49/year, then fuck them.

Violetta 07-13-2008 10:07 AM

congrats!! You win

Black_Widow 07-13-2008 10:12 AM

You have AAA in Ukraine?

How is them destroying their car affecting you? I think if they want to fuck up their car, then go for it! Lesson learned!

Yes... do you? He refused to help someone jumpstart their car, I wondered why since it wasn't his car anyways...

The damage could be done to your car.

I know a guy who did over $2,200 of electrical system damage to his rather old BMW by helping jumpstart some dude's car.

Fuck, you're a dumbass.

borked 07-13-2008 10:43 AM

huh? depends how you jumpstart. With your key in and motor running, sure, you can fuck up your alternator cos the normal 14V reading will spike to 28V when the other car starts. However with your engine off and key out, it cannot affect your electrics or alternator at all - you can't kill something that isn't electrically connected....

I don't mind jumpstarting others, but they get two shots to start their motor - after that, all bets are off.

while we're on this subject, can someone explain what difference it makes if you connect the negative terminal to the hotstarting chassis or the -ve of the battery? I always connect to the chassis, but my current owners manual says the -ve battery terminal.

The order of connecting is important too - I can never remember, so I have it written on my cables!!

But yeah, I've hotstarted about 15 times others cars (half of those being the wifes, of course) and never had any prob.

Hook up the positives on both cars while keeping the neg away from any grounding surface. Hook up the negative on the car that needs jumped and hook up the neg on the car doing the jumping last. You can leave the car that is running on while starting the other. Your car is always pulling from the battery, the battery doesn't push. On top of that your alternator puts out 14.4 to 16v . Nothing will fry. The only ones that fuck up their car when jump starting are people who do shit the wrong way. Ive jump started probably 300 to 400 cars or more over the years and NEVER fucked up anyones electrical system. Ever. or my own. lol

Iron Fist 07-13-2008 11:57 AM

I've jumped cars and never had problems either with my car afterwards... Hell even the car owners manual gives detailed instructions on how to jump start the car.

Not to mention that they're complete fucking dicks. "Fuck you unless I need you--BWAHHH I STUBBED MY TOE PAY ATTENTION TO ME!"

Protip: Chassis (ground), then positives. Don't crank, stupid.

YEah and it takes just one fuck up to have the batter explode in your face and leave you disfigured for the rest of your life.

And yes, it does happen.

About as often as you lower yourself to be seen amongst mortals, such as those you expect to not smother you to death after lighting your house on fire?

Don't worry, there will be an investigation if they don't find any soot in your lungs; let's hope that they get the jump start figured out.

Deej 07-13-2008 12:27 PM

be a man and push it to a hill... if you dont drive a manual... youre a pussy!

automatics are for blonde women that are coordination impaired...

Then stop taking showers. Probably the most dangerous activity done in the average home.

I don't care how you spin it, that did not get there by "slipping in the shower."

GTS Mark 07-13-2008 01:22 PM

Been jumping cars since I was just a teenager, never once had a problem like the one you are describing?

Did they hook it up wrong or something?

Agent 488 07-13-2008 01:35 PM

live in the cold north, had worked in an auto body shop - jumped prob. a hundred + cars - never even heard of that happening - wonder how they fucked it up?

BradM 07-13-2008 01:44 PM

BMW urges drivers not to help jumpstart cars. I called and asked their corporate why one time and they said it's just policy due to electrical failure issues as per the customers idiocy (not in such crude words of course).

I am aware it happens, and it happens mainly from stupidity. For instance. If it is cold really cold out and you dont make sure the battery is not frozen. You are stupid. If you smoke near a battery while jump starting it you are retarded. There are many more examples, and I've seen batteries blow up within 15 feet of where I stood, and I saw a retard customer that was told not to smoke light up a cigarette and get acid blown all over him. I was in auto parts for over 10 years. Its always stupidity. You can get blown up while filling the tank on your car up too. How? Stupidity. That doesn't make someone stupid for asking a neighbor for a jumpstart. :uhoh

Its more likely that many bmw batteries are under the backseat and there is a larger risk of fire that a battery under the hood. :winkwink:

Yea, was about to say, why jump start when you can help him push start it? If he says an automatic you can say "hurray for you for buying a car that costs more to buy, costs more to maintain, costs more in gas AND you can't push start it if your battery dies..."

OG LennyT 07-13-2008 05:18 PM

In other words you don't know how to jump a car and justify this ignorance by telling tales of electrical mayhem...

LOL, fucking kids these days

AllStar 07-13-2008 09:26 PM

You have to be retarded to fuck up your car jump starting somebody else's car...
The problem is some idiots read the first few posts and now believe it fucks up your car.

Go rent Idiocracy...

mattz 07-13-2008 10:28 PM

Jump it correctly and you have no problems

bloggingseo 07-14-2008 03:05 AM

I think it's just the point. i have always helped others jump start their cars because I believe in karma and doing right. If I am in that situation, I would want someone to help me! I had someone help me go get a new tire on Thanksgiving one time quite a few years back and I was stranded going to see my parents. It was very nice of them, took an hour of their time and they just wanted to go enjoy their Thanksgiving! No I didn't have AAA, I didn't even think about things like that at 19. I try to help others now when they need it.
