Do surfers actually read blogs?

Do you think they actually read it? Or is this text mostly written to attract search engines and make it look blog like. Don't get me wrong, handwritten blogs are unique and nice for search engines of course.

If it describes what is going on in the picture or gallery is that good enough? Even then, do people read it>

I remember back in the day I would read a few sites. They took time to write some stuff but I never came for the story - I came for the pics or funny links. I know it's a chick getting nailed, etc, I don't need to read about it I want to see it.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the text is more important to Google/Yahoo than it is to visitors?

Words = search engine content. The worse they are, the better.

Images = surfer clicks = cash

The worse the better? That sounds a bit odd. Might as well write good english since you're doing it anyway.

CunningStunt 07-15-2008 05:35 AM

No, I mean just write boring stuff, so they piss off to your sponsors as quickly as possible :)

Jdoughs 07-15-2008 05:41 AM

If your "porn surfers" are reading then your pictures suck.

If you are trying to win over surfers for repeat reads, your writing will need to be one in a million, and not really good english, but good reading.

Even having a site thats one in a million online means there is 50 others like you out there. Thats why I'm a fan of using the text for what its good for, controlling, and influencing the spider, and let the visual content take the surfers away to the sponsor.

Get Traffic - (step 2) - Get Money.

Step 2 is making them click to the sponsor. If they arent sign ups who cares if there is something interesting for them to read. And if they are they arent coming back to read after signing up, they are tossin off.

Like everything there is exeptions to the rule. Conditions apply, fine print, yada yada...

Its the way you setup your blog..

The surfer always first looks at the picture but if you want the surfer to read also the picture should be inviting to read.. Like it should be a picture what asks the user to read the text to know whats going on. For example a picture of a blonde sucking a cock explains itself pretty much, so surfers won't read.. But lets say a picture of a girl looking really shocked with under it text.. Users probally want to know what she is so shocked about thus making them read your text..

I usually just hit the tube sites.

that was fucking rad

Some visitors read, most don't though. For me the text is mainly for SEO but for those surfers that read you might aswell have at the least a descreptive text about the pics/movies or some sort of short story baked with keywords. This does also depend on what "niche" your blog is, for instance Celeb/Gossip blog's tend to be pretty dependent on good text.

Oh man . . . .

Yes, successful blogs have actual readers. If they are looking at the pictures you have a TGP.

fuzebox 07-15-2008 08:30 PM

My best blog has posts that range from 3-500 words and are very creatively written. Yes it gets some great search engine traffic, but according to the analytics I get repeat visitors, and the blog name and the domain show hits in wordtracker/overture, as well as my referring keywords from google, so... Yes I think my surfers read my posts :)

Jim_Gunn 07-15-2008 08:41 PM

If you care about the niche and write something interesting it has to be better than all these lame blogs people create just to throw some pics up with sponsor links.
