Do you "will your sites?"

the "are you scared of death" thread got me thinking. do any of you have your sites in a will or keep some kind of records so "if your time comes early" someone can continue to run them?

i know a lot of you here run a one man show with some of your sites but didnt know if you had a plan in place

as for me? no I dont, but ive thought about it before. not just if I die, but say for some reason im picked up at the mall because the feds have me confused with some crazy serial killer and i spend a month or two in jail

MichaelP 07-15-2008 08:13 AM

Damns.. Never thought about that :(

Zorgman 07-15-2008 08:18 AM

Yep, as of 4 years ago, everything went into a will + black book. They will just sell everything anyway because there not into this business but might give them a few extra bucks. :)

naughtylaura 07-15-2008 09:44 AM

yep i have things in place just incase.. took me forever to write a "how to" on running them haha x

globofun 07-15-2008 09:55 AM

Looking into this at the present moment......got myself a safe deposit box that will have everything explained to continue the business when I'm gone! :)

Trixie 07-15-2008 10:45 AM

I still haven't taken care of it, but if my partner/gf and I both die together we do need something in place, especially after my sister said she assumes I'd want them taken down. I was like, "what the FUCK? Do you not know me?? THAT'S MY LEGACY!"

It's like burning every copy of a book and never selling another one once an author dies.

Dead webwhores can still make money.

Another option for who to leave sites to: Carol Queen's library of the Center for Sex and Culture

I have a detailed list of how to reach all my bank accounts, email accounts, URLs, etc. My will states that everything I have will be divided evenly between my brother and father so I would assume they would get permission to cash my business (and personal) checks and just let the domains expire when they will. I know neither wants to "run" the business.

My life insurance is payable to my father and is enough to cover the balance of my mortgage (term insurance, not mortgage insurance). My understanding is that the family will keep my house as a vacation home not sell it. My other properties and businesses will probably be sold.

This is all assuming I go before all of them :) Hopefully I will be completely out of adult by the time I die 30 years from now and all I'll have to worry about is what to leave to the nieces!

If I die, why one earth I care what happens to my sites? I am sure you are only thinking this because you are safe, If your life were in danger, you wouldn't even think of your sites, let alone their future.

But yeah, may be a needy friend of mine needs them lol ..

Angel Martin 07-24-2008 06:47 AM

yeh same here

ADL Colin 07-24-2008 07:06 AM

You should will your business which should own your sites

tranza 07-24-2008 07:58 AM

Post to think about...

czarina 07-24-2008 08:06 AM

I never thought of that... they're under my mom's name (long story, dont ask!), and now that you mention it, I will make sure that she knows how to sell them and for how much

Cyndalie 07-24-2008 08:06 AM

I don't have any sites to will but I do have a nice life insurance policy.

teg0 07-24-2008 08:11 AM

my sites probably die with me

~zombiegirl~ 07-24-2008 08:11 AM

yeah of course. All my top earners are listed by URL specifically as well as bank account info and properties, etc etc. Which reminds me I have to update my will now since I got married.

raven1083 07-24-2008 08:13 AM

going to think about it!

The main reason would be to not screw over your affiliates if you're a program owner. Just like I shoot 2+ years of content of a solo girl before putting her site up, I also have my program/sites covered in case I die.

Strange, This is the first time I have been on here since I came out of hospital with one ball less than when I went in thanks to cancer. Up until I became mono-balled I never gave it a though what would happen to my sites. I dont make a great deal from em but I lost about 10 good domains when I was in hospital.
For you that are curious Yup I can still fuck like an animal but I cant giv em the goo-ey drool like I used to.

It's weird reading responses from people who can't comprehend porn sites being worth more than temporary secret money. I understand few people come from my perspective, but can't you at least imagine it? It *is* possible to be proud of your work and to feel your sites are part of your personal legacy. Even more than that, my blogs and sites and porn all represent a certain place and time in history with a unique political, technological milieu.

It's pretty sad that so many people have invested so little in their work that they'd be fine with it all just disappearing. I guess that's a testiment to how much crappy porn is out there.

If my sites just disappeared I would feel like my memory was being erased. My work is a way of achieving a bit of immortality.

My business will die with me at this point. Possibly if I grow something fairly large I will write it into my will with detailed instructions. Most likely my sites will continue to generate income until they expire or my hosting dies. Then the checks will keep coming for at least 6 months due to rebills.
