So i was going thru my cards from the Xbiz Summer Forum and this one caught my attention and made me laugh at the same time.

that's mine!
I hate Sales peeps.. |
Alex i understand where your coming from 100%.
But I think that to be an effective sales rep in the biz you have to be a webmaster first or being very well versed in the game to make sales work. To many rep are sales people first webmasters second. |

Funny, and good idea.
But he/she shouldn't have added the last line "How are you going to make me more money?" ... That's just the opening every rep needs ... "So you have only midget tranny traffic? Well we're a VOD site with 1 billion videos and blah blah blah ... So dude, I know we can make you cash money!!!" "Yeah, but do you have midget tranny videos?" Blank stare ... "Here have another vodka/redbull!" |
Funny card yes (definitely made me laugh) we all love enjoy ego and attitude in this biz or we would not be here.
That said...it sort of does away with needing to attend a show if you don't feel anyone there has anything to offer except friendship? And if that is the case then why attend adult webmaster conventions? Why not attend a surfer show? Or perhaps a travel conference? I am a program owner, I am a sales person and a I am a webmaster. I like to see every person as an opportunity to make more business. In this industry we are unique in that often in making business for yourself the person you are working with is also receiving a benefit even if there is a cost attached. So riddle me this fellow "Business Men and Women" what is that you hope to achieve at a show if you aren't buying and you aren't selling? Then what would be the point of networking exactly? |

my card i made in PS was a joke. everything is what you make it. i go to shows with certain predetermined roles and missions to accomplish. every one is different. :thumbsup |

logic is not often the creed here.... |

Yes that is the best way to go to shows ... with a plan. There are, however, genuinely a lot of people who abhor sales reps. Reps, who by the way are mostly just trying to do a job, are viewed as the lowest rung on the ladder while a lot of them are likely making more money then the webmasters refusing to speak with them. I did not mean to come across critically but I think it is a valid question? What's in a show? I still find conferences invaluable for any of my B2B products because there is a different mind set that comes with those sales pitches... I am dealing with other people who want to actually hear a pitch. I guess I am wondering.. based on conversations, comments and posts outside of this thread as well as within: What do the guys who are solely working in this biz as affiliates think about achieving when they go to shows? I mean Rob's card shared some incite... he wants to know how the rep can make him more money...that is valid. How does he expect this to happen though if he is not open to adding new sponsors? Maybe that sponsor that isn't on your site COULD make you more money... obviously the ones you work with are productive but could it not also follow that other sponsors could be as or more productive? Could you not hear that rep out and then demand a huge bonus incentive to get the deal working in your favor? Just some food for thought. E. |
Maybe I was just inviting the receiver of the card to use some creativity in their approach...
