system admins... any hints on settings so email doesn't always go to spam

just noticing my emails on some of my servers ends up going to spam filters more often than not, and some servers seem worse for it than others

do anyone have any suggestions for me on how to minimize that problem?

I can send mail from my gmail and it almost always makes it to desination, but send an email from one of my hosts and it is probably around 50 50

is there anything that can be done at the server settings to help with that?

Sounds like your mail servers are blacklisted. Check the IPs to see why: http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

ask your admins to use SPF and DKIM into your smtp/domains so it will be 'a little more compliant' with google/yahoo rules, also not being in a blacklist helps.

I'll have to google that to see if it is something I am missing on my unmanaged dedicated too, but I've seen the problem on many shared hosts too

this blacklisting? sorry for the naive question but is it done by specific ip or by an ip range? or does it have something to do with the domain nameserver?
