CNN -- what kind of a sad commentary on life this is when...

CNN breaks into their regular news broadcast for a "special news update"....

(((drumroll)))

Sarah Jessica Parker just had a mole removed.

really

Are you fucking kidding me?

I realize most news networks pander to the lowest common denominator but isn't this getting a bit ridiculous?

_Richard_ 07-17-2008 03:15 PM

cnn did that? they're usually pretty good

stickyfingerz 07-17-2008 03:18 PM

Well to be fair to them, it was a huge fucking mole...

SCORE Ralph 07-17-2008 03:18 PM

CNN just seems to suck lately.. There's tons of news going on in the world but you'd never know it watching CNN.. with them it's all US politics and celeb crap these days.

TyroneGoldberg 07-17-2008 05:11 PM

In other news.....

According to the Government Accounting Office, each American household owes $455,000. This is your share of the $53 trillion in of long-term liabilities held by the U.S.
-------------------
The International Monetary Fund - which oversees third-world economies - are so concerned about the solvency of the U.S. economy that they are conducting a complete audit of the whole US financial system

xxxdesign-net 07-17-2008 05:12 PM

Did Anderson Cooper keep the mole honest ?

Actually a guy on local radio here was talking about this, and apparently it actually was pretty big.

/not a fan... and I don't care...

Socks 07-17-2008 07:18 PM

You seriously do get better US news from BBC. At least you only hear the actual important things. CNN is more like The Onion every day

That's a serious insult to the Onion.

ADL Colin 07-17-2008 07:30 PM

We need a new war

kane 07-17-2008 08:04 PM

They play a clip on Howard Stern from a news show (not sure which one) where they have a guy on talking about 9/11 and the people that were killed there and they interrupt him to announce that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez had broken up. It was pathetic.

broke 07-17-2008 08:10 PM

Don't blame CNN. Blame the average American twit.

As a for profit "news network", they are going to report what they think will bring the most eyeballs to the screen regardless of said thing's "newsworthiness".

Things like 9/11, the Iraq thing, the Afganistan thing, are all old news. It's a reversal of sorts really. Used to be the regular old news when nothing else was going on was the celeb crap, and they'd break into that stuff with the real breaking news about war, world crisis', etc. Now it's the other way around.

You'd think CNN would hold themselves to a higher standard, but sadly they don't. Do any?

Tom_PM 07-18-2008 09:59 AM

CNN with a higher standard.. hmm..

They are suckered all of the time it seems. Is it "news" to go on a campaign where everyday during the "news", you have a banner asking "should hillary quit?" with panels of surrogates from obama, clinton and mccain voicing their considered opinions on this breaking news issue? This breaking news issue that nobody was asking except people in the news business? Self serving fucks. It USED TO BE absolutely taboo to BECOME the story when tasked with reporting it. Now they practically invite it to happen.

I always will remember Wolf Blitzer declaring "The duke university players are NOW innocent" when the charges against them were dropped. Brilliant, Wolf. Because as we know, in America, you are presumed non-innocent until the charges are dropped. Yep, well said.

Nobody questions the premise anymore, and thats about the only reason we've ever needed a free press for. Now it really might as well be labeled as "entertainment".

Socks 07-18-2008 10:10 AM

They should change their name to CENN, Cable Entertainment News Network... Selections from the Latest News and More News main lists of new "stories" on CNN, right now:

# No panic, financial planners say 42 min
# Ticker: Obama may be a socialist, McCain says
# Sky diver misses target, hits band Video
# Man counted calories, subtracted pounds
# iReport.com: Did you see Batman?
# CNNMoney: Top 25 places for singles
# Shark jumps into surfing photos
# Yikes! 8 ft. snake found in laundry
# Fat, floppy bellies win this contest
# Nine weird ingredients in makeup
# Jimi Hendrix featured in 'Guitar Hero'
# 'Office's' Dwight has very, very good day

Pleasurepays 07-18-2008 10:11 AM

the mob wants/needs to be entertained. as peoples attention span gets shorter and shorter, the news gets more and more retarded.
