Today truly sucked ass

Today was without a doubt one of the hardest days in my life. Today I had to break the news to my 9 yr old son that his best friend passed away this morning after a 4 yr battle with cancer that started in his shin bone and recently spread throughout his body.

My son has been friends with Dallas since he was about 3 1/2 when we first moved to this neighborhood, I have actually know his mom since grade school. 4 yrs ago Dallas was diagnosed with cancer in his shin bone. After Chemo and replacing the bone with a cadaver bone, Dallas seemed to be on the road to recovery. Frequent check ups and so forth kept us sure that he was cancer free for more then 2 yrs now.

2 months ago they discovered some spots on the bone that had been replaced, not wanting the cancer to spread the Dr's immediately amputated the leg. 3 weeks ago during another exam it was discovered that the cancer had spread into his lungs and several other organs. He was sent home from the hospital yesterday so that he could spend his remaining time with family close by. slipping in and out of conciseness from the steady morphine drip to control the pain, Dallas passed away early this AM.

My son understands his friend is in a better place now and now longer in pain but he doesn't understand why it had to be his friend who got sick. Why it was Dallas who had to die after seemingly beating the cancer the 1st time. Just a few minutes ago he came and asked me what will happen if he gets sick too. Some of his questions I have no answer for as I don't believe in bull shitting my child and it's hard

I can't even begin to imagine what Dallas's parents are going through and I hope to never be in the position to find out. Hug your children/family tight and let them know how much they mean to you.

The world lost a good, pure sole today. RIP Dallas

Best wishes to the family through this terrible time... I can't imagine what it would be like to let your young child go.

Ugg thats terrible. Im so sorry to hear that. Difficult to hear about losing any child to disease like that. I hope people think about things like that when they are griping about silly things that they will forget about a day from now. I hope you your son and that poor boys family get over the pain as soon as humanly possible. :(

I thought this was going to be a thread about not having a good biz day, but it turned out to be about much more... :(

My condolences to the family of your son's friend, Dallas.

Take good care of your son as he learns how to cope with his grief.

RIP Dallas...

Condolences to your son and yourself and the boys family. Tough spot for sure. Kids are smart though and they get through when we least expect them to.
Good to count blessings when you've got em.

Tough loss at such a young age.

Spend some extra time with your son, I am sure this experience makes you appreciate him even more.

I'm sorry for you and you're sons loss. I lost my friend at age 10 to leukemia. If you're son wants to attend the funeral let him. My parents would'nt let me go to my buddies because they thought it would be too hard me/his parents. I still hold that agains them.

Rip Dallas and Scotty!
