Final Cut editors, I need your help.

I'm 100% brand spankin' new to FCP. So bear with me as I try to explain this problem.

I'm taking over from a previous editor that lost the job. The movie is already on the time line ready to be sent to a DVCAM master. The problem is this: FCP or MAC or whatever is not allowing me to initialize the deck.

The deck I have is the Sony HVR-M15U, and from what I understand, this deck was used to digitize the footage.

I went to File>Edit to tape and it can't initialize the deck it says I need to check my devices in audio/video settings. When I go to check them, I'm faced with like 20 different presets. 1 being the sony hd firewire device. I set it to that and then I can edit that devices properties, and upon opening that I'm faced with like 20 more presets.

There could be thousands of possible combinations with the various other little settings involved.

I tried "printing to video" but that only played on the Mac, but didn't record to DVCAM.

Can anyone help me solve this?

make sure when you have it set to the right format in the easy setup, try firewire basic and double check to see if its set to dv or hdv, there are a couple of places to look

I have a solution.

Take the MAC outside and break it in your driveway.

And to think, you busted my balls for just using my old MAC as a door stop.

The shame.

You just lost like 31 points on the coolness scale. I may even look into having someone strip the "red" from your name. You'd be only "shoe" or changed to MacShoe. Yea, I like the ring of that. My boys are on the way over.

Redshoe on a MAC. Pffft. What will you tell your kids when they grow up?

It's Slayer's not mine. He took it from the editor that had it and brought it here.

Remember when he said he was gonna knock down the back office wall and expand it... well..

The deck itself needs to be set up properly. Use easy setup in FCP for the right settings but you will have to match them using the decks menus :)

We have had the same problem here and it all came down to the deck not matching the settings you need.
