Paysite Design costs

Hey, been a LONG time since I paid anyone for web design. What will a NICE paysite design cost nowadays? Both the tour and the internal. I can add all the content, just the design is needed. Photos only, no video.

p.s. not looking for designers yet, this is for Sept so I am looking to see how much to budget

Mutt 07-18-2008 01:55 PM

$500 to $3000

there are designers who do decent work at the low end

kisskatlyn 07-18-2008 02:26 PM

yah that is low! Good to know...means I can put more money into content and then upgrade the website later. I do not want to start with shit though so I will pay what I need to get a nice site :)

Sharky 07-18-2008 06:28 PM

Expet on spending $1500-2500 for someone that knows what they are doing. A design can Look great, but will it convert? The lower end/lower cost designers might not know what it takes to make a site convert

I recommend paying a minimum of $1,200 for a design, even if you are looking to economize. Anything less than that and you will probably have someone who either has a lot of artistic talent but not a lot of pay site design experience, someone who has done a lot of design but has no eye, or someone who is selling themselves short and will either be unable to make deadlines due to overwork and such or will just not be giving it their best effort.

Buy cheap, buy twice as my grandmother used to say.

czarina 07-19-2008 06:42 AM

I charge about $650 for a 4 page tour (disclaimer, 2 tour, 1 join) plus members area template. For example:

There are plenty of designers who can make shit for $1500-2000 and it is also possible to find someone who make great paysites for $500-1000 with full pack of promo tools. The main problem is they are hard to find and they do not spam boards with their offers, cause they already have tons of orders.

chuvii 07-20-2008 11:41 AM

$800+
maybe less maybe more

I'd be happy to give you a quote for a paysite design! Hit me up, my ICQ is in my sig. In the meantime, feel free to check out out portfolio at http://www.adultdesign.com/?nma=design&type=19

If you're hands on, you know what you want, you know the text and layout you want, you can go cheaper. If however, you're looking for a full service design/marketing/theme creation then a bigger company may be the way to go.

Don't always be governed by price though, as alot of designers have to price with the outsourced/ I can do it in 3 days for $300 people.

There's some good designers around in the $600 mark for reality style, but there's some serious shit about aswell. But if the crap designers deliver on time when the client wants it in 2-3 days. Then it's the clients fault.

depends on the job involved. our minimum service quotation is in my sig. :)

your business. plain and simple. if you fuck up on it, you risk your whole business, at least until you make the decision to pay for it AGAIN.

If you want some advice, don't worry about price, nor high neither low, that's a misconception and a really clueless generalization. ie, if any designer charging $600 decides to charge $2000 does it means he's automatically good? if someone who is extremely good and chooses to lower prices and do more work, does it means he/she is automatically bad? And I could go on FOR HOURS telling how wrong is the price based decision. All in all, it's true that people charging a little (or a lot) more tends to be better, at least aesthetically speaking.

However, here's my bullet proof advice: ask ANY designer you like to show you how well their designs convert measured on 3rd party stats (or test those sites by yourself). If the niche is the same than yours, even better. Believe me, you'll get quite a few surprises :2 cents:

harvey 07-21-2008 04:31 PM

btw, not to piss on anyone's cornflakes, but to be honest, stay away of outsourcing companies unless you love to throw your money away. They're OK for grunt work, maybe promo material and stuff like that, but putting your whole business in their hands isn't very smart. Let's put it this way: your website is to your business the same as a shop. Yu want it to look good, you want the people to enter, you want the people to be seduced and more important, you want the people TO SPEND MONEY IN IT.

ask yourself: where would you like to shop? here?

Thank you everyone for your replies. Except the people who spammed me with their ads.

By spamming me you showed me that you DID NOT READ my post. I said I did not want to know about any companies, I was just trying to budget. If you can't do something as simple as READ my post why on earth would I trust you to listen to what I want for a design?

Thanks everyone else for your input, I appreciate it and you brought up good points. It will be difficult to decide when the time comes to hire someone who to go with.
