What did you hear? Last I knew, there were some ridiculous stipulations they had to meet, like the minority BS. http://www.lvrj.com/opinion/25610424.html

I'm turning on Howard now to hear the latest.

5 member board. 3 republicans, 2 democrats. Partisan bickering of course like anything else. The vote right now is 2-2 with one repub left. She is expected to vote for it soon. And yes, the recent dem vote against was because he wanted 25% of channels allocated for minority run and public service programming. That is a ridiculous percentage to want. The companies had agreed on 8% which IMO is more than fine to "require" to be one of those two uses.

See, republicans are good for something! :)

You'll enjoy Sirius much more. And I can't stand Howard Stern, so no, thats not why :)

The big radio companies really went hard to buy off Congreemen and assure this never gets done right.

H O W D A R E Y O U :winkwink:

Sirius is definitely the superior product, with or without Howie... but I guess that debate will be moot sooner than later.

Hope it raises the stock price so I can sell.

OG LennyT 07-23-2008 11:54 AM

To secure FCC approval of their merger, Sirius (SIRI, Trade ) and XM (XMSR, Trade ) have agreed to a three-year price freeze for consumers, the creation of smaller packages at lower prices, a la carte radio programming, to let any manufacturer make satellite-radio equipment and set aside up to 8% of their channels for minority-owned stations and noncommercial use.

Under one offer the companies announced last July, subscribers would be able to choose 50 channels for $6.99 -- a 46 % decrease from the current standard subscription rate of $12.95. Customers could then add more channels for a minimum of 25 cents each.
Not too bad :)

Depends on the channels and the talent - on some Sirius is better, on some, XM wins. (We have XM in my wife's car and I have Sirius in my car so I get to hear both.) If they wanted to hire me to consult, I could tell them exactly what and who to keep, and who would be the casualties in the merger :thumbsup

a la carte will be nice.. but this part is what jumped out at me..

That has always been the downside. Their radios are pretty crappy. I have a bricked S50 and even the stilleto had a lot of faults. It will be nice to see some decent products come out.
