Trouble sleeping.. Anybody have this problem?

You feel tired but can't sleep? I've had this my whole life. Well as far back as I can remember anyway. I hit the sack at my regular time and try to go to sleep but every time you think you're about to fall asleep you suddenly wake up. Then you start watching the clock and then it's all over. You're up allnight, tossing and turning. It's doesn't happen all the time but every now and then I go threw 3-4 nights in a row like this and have to run on a couple hours sleep during the day..

Read a book.

I was about to say the same thing.

These days, I can't even remember my head hitting the pillow, but I had the insomnia problem a few years back. I'd start reading a book, and in about 5-10 minutes -- lights out. It almost never failed, even if the book was good.

I'd say read some tedious shit like Quantum physics and you'll be a sleepy little bitch in about 2 minutes.

Imortyl Pussycat 07-24-2008 10:08 AM

welcome to my last 3 nights Martin, it sucks :( i can't take anything for it cuz i'm too scared that will be the one night the psycho serial killing rapist will bust into my place and have his way with me while i am unconscious (yes, that's a separate issue i need to deal with lol). i have found that sleepytime tea extra with a little milk in it helps quite alot. i am out and will def. be picking some up today in anticipation of another shit night tonight. hope you get some rest soon

Been having the same trouble lately.

Must be something in the water.

klaze 07-24-2008 10:18 AM

I have this problem every night..

It's really just about taking your mind off of the idea that you are TRYING to fall asleep.

Read a book, listen to the tv, think of your girlfriend... Don't focus on the time.. Replay/Visualize a happy memory in your head over and over again to occupy your thoughts..

I find if I just close my eyes and lay perfectly still for long enuff I will eventually fall asleep...

This happens to me like every night... Just wishing I could fall asleep and then I wake up in the morning and say "Wooo thank god I fell asleep"

it sucks.. it has actually made me very dependent on weed..

Pornwolf 07-24-2008 10:48 AM

Fuck. The last week has been terrible for me. I haven't been able to get to sleep at all.

Must be something in the water.

GetSCORECash 07-24-2008 10:54 AM

same here, it's stress, so I simply stay up late and get up early.

Vicious_B 07-24-2008 10:55 AM

I always have trouble falling asleep unless I am completely exhausted. Tylenol PM's work pretty good

Kinda what I do... every once in a while I will have a 3-4 day stretch where I have trouble falling asleep. I lay there and turn off my mind. Don't let it wander, try not to think of anything, maybe just listen to the sounds outside. Take deep breaths through my nose. Puts me out in no time, eveytime.

RyuLion 07-24-2008 11:08 AM

I tend to have trouble sleeping when I travel, and when sleeping in different beds.
Its hard to sleep with a strange girl next to you too..
Maybe its a mental thing but I know its killing my back..

Matyko 07-24-2008 11:10 AM

options:
- smoke a little splif (recommended #1)
- drink some beer
- read a book (recommended #2) --> combined with the first the result is guaranteed ;)
- watch politics channel on TV

:pimp

Look on the bright side Martin, if it doesn't work you'll soon be the most educated quantum geekazoid on GFY.

klinton 07-24-2008 12:48 PM

exercise something, eat good, go to bed early, or/and get stoned, don't stress yourself too much a day

moeloubani 07-24-2008 12:50 PM

if you dont get enough sunlight during the day you will have a shitty sleep

INever 07-24-2008 01:28 PM

Why toss and turn? Just do stuff, get up when you have to, and go thru the next day on a little bit of sleep. Then the next night you'll be sleepier. Maybe.

I use Melotonin too. It works great!!!

bausch 07-24-2008 02:49 PM

I have this too. Melatonin doesnt work, it makes me "half-asleep" but not "really asleep" and sometimes I don't fall asleep at all and when I do I have the most bizarre dreams ever.
SleepMD doesn't work for me either.

I think it's probably part of getting older. I find that laying on the couch in front of the tv puts me to sleep, I have fallen asleep accidentally like this before. I have had days where I laid in bed from 2 am and didnt sleep until 5 or 6 am...

Also, I cannot just stay up all day or get by with a few hours and go through the day tired in the hopes that I will go to bed earlier that way. I am too weak and always end up falling asleep and screwing everything up.

Mohawk Steve 07-24-2008 02:56 PM

Melatonin + Kava Kava root will knock you out and you'll sleep like a rock

How much melatonin do you take? I used to take only 3 mg and would get the half asleep thing. So I started taking 6 mg. Lights out every time and I feel great in the AM.
