That's the way modern torpedoes are designed to work. Instead of slamming into the side of the ship, they explode underneath it as close to the middle as possible. The explosion itself breaks the back of the ship with upward force, then the ship falls back into a "hole" in the water created by the cavitation effect of the explosion.

Ain't technology grand :thumbsup

DaddyHalbucks 07-24-2008 11:30 AM

That was a back breaker!

baddog 07-24-2008 11:31 AM

Wonder how long it took to sink.

Manowar 07-24-2008 11:34 AM

god damn, that is destruction

jmk 07-24-2008 11:39 AM

Wow crazy!

Then again I am wondering isn't this polluting the oceans?

Sunken ships make great reefs.

I have a feeling that video was edited. I highly doubt a ship that size can sink in 30 seconds. Although, it did look fast.

I miss Tony Snow's smugness. :( He's pretty smug now though isn't he? I hope he died in agonizing pain. :)

That cartoonist really missed a great opportunity too. He/she should have had that "Mission Accomplished" banner on that sinking ship lol

_Richard_ 07-24-2008 12:08 PM

that's pretty crazy.. i wonder what technology their using for the torpedos

GetSCORECash 07-24-2008 12:22 PM

So anyone on a navy boat, could be killed with one torpedo.

I guess thier is no point in makeing big ships anymore, if all it takes is one little torpedo to sink them.

for every action there's a reaction equal in force and opposite in direction

papill0n 07-24-2008 02:48 PM

that was pretty impressive

D Ghost 07-24-2008 04:11 PM

It doesn't cut the ship in half. The Torpedo likely didn't even touch the ship. They go under the ship and blow up and the water pressure actually breaks the ship in half.

Sorry Nick, but I find that unbelievable sad and sick that you wish someone agonizing pain because you didn't agree with their politics. Tony Snow was a great guy regardless of his political views, and it takes an immense amount of hate to hope he died in a lot of pain. :disgust

Drake 07-24-2008 05:45 PM

Amazing... I love military technology

pornask 07-24-2008 05:51 PM

Too bad no moronic Americans were on it. Would have made the world a better place....
