Vacation??? Do you remember what that is?
Ok,
I have my best friend here for a 4 day visit, so I decided to take a "vacation". My guess is that a "normal" person would not call it that:-) I get up 3 hours before my friend to be able to check my email and do all the "things I really need to do online". Breakfast together on the terrace, really nice. Off to the beach with a "hold on", I just need to check my email before we go. Spend a few great hours on the beach with me like a wreck not knowing what to do with myself, simply because I am not used to just "sit around" doing nothing. We come back to the house, time to get ready for dinner in a restaurant. While he is in the shower getting ready for the evening, I manage to squeeze in members area update, support emails from members and a few other things as well. Off to the restaurant, a great dinner with friends and a few drinks afterwards. When we come back to the house again, I have to do the evening round check stats, email blablabla, you all know the drill. A really nice day in total, spent with good friends. And it hits me, this is one of my days "off" work. Only worked for about 5 hours today. The point with all my rant is: Do you take FULL days off work? Do you feel like you are on the run the whole time if you do? Sorry for the massive amount of words, I admit, I am a workaholic, I dont like days off, they give me stress:-) *hugs and kisses* |
I love to work all the time to, but without vacation from time to time, I wouldnt!
|
lol That's hilarious, though "Sad but True" :)
I'm the same way. Vacations for me is going to a tradeshow. :D |
I used to do that and it ran me right into the ground. You have to learn to take some time off for yourself once in awhile or you'll get completely burned out...you need to refresh and recharge
|
I know it is sad. I actually had a week back in 2002 with no access to a computer. I like working, the same way I like to workout. Simply cant live without it. Ok, this is official, I am taking next Saturday off, you will not see me online, I guess I will have to cut of the electricity to the office to make that happend, but I will do it:-))))
PS. Have to get a few hours of sleep before my houseguest wakes up, and then we start this race all over again, this was day 1. *hugs and kisses* |
Sykkboy,
That is what I do everyday working out. That is enough for me:-) *hugs and kisses* |
Thise year after my first vacation in 2 years I've quitted my job LOL ...
|
No rest for the wicked
|
I'm exactly like that and that's totally fucked
probably since 3-4 months ago I started taking Sundays off, just checking stats once-twice and email, that's it |
I know exactly how you feel. It's hard to unwinde, very hard.

Everybody needs some downtime..all about priorities

I work a lot, I go out heavy on the weekends. and when im on vacation, im ON VACATION!
|
not big on vacation, even when I had a day job with paid vacation I rarely took it.
|
I'm always checking stats and email...
|
My last vacation was in 1999, a week in Montana, before I got into the industry full time.
|
I think you will find most folks in this biz are like that. My last vacation was back in 1997. I was not in the biz either at the time. It changes when you work for yourself too. I have learned to refresh with a few days off though, no more than 2 ... well maybe one and a half lol. By the end of the second day I can't resist checking emails and stats ... To really get refreshed though, I think you have to remove yourself from the temptation by getting away from the house.

I wouldn't mind living a vacation ;)

I used to work all of the time as well. Now I can easily unplug and take vacations. Constant work will burn your ass out and the time off actually can clear your mind.
The worst part I see in this thread is the mention of people "needing" to check stats. Really why the obsession with checking your stats so much. Some email checking I can possibly get, though those can be diverted as well while you take your time off but stats? |
I love vacations. Since I've started this biz in '97 we've been to Hawaii 5 times. Usually for 2 weeks as we like to do multiple islands. I only took my laptop this last time, but did maybe 3 hours of work over 8 days. I can't wait for February - The Business is going to get to pay for my Hawaii trip this year.... AND I'm going to get to go 2 years in a row instead of my usual once every 2 years. Actually my avatar is a pic I took from a bar in Hana on my last trip about 7 months ago.

We just had a 1 year brake from webwork to not get burned out
now it is time to get back |
My life is a vacation... I have no problems with taking a couple hours a day to keep everything running smoothly while on a 3 week trip in Florida or something.
|
I go on vacation in 3 weeks time... :pimp
