God damn are you serious? that cant be real.

DirtyProfits 07-27-2008 06:13 PM

Not more than 20km max. by car and it should not take longer than 30 minutes one way.
Right now I have to drive about 12km to the gym which takes me like 10-15 minutes by car and half an hour by bike.

CurrentlySober 07-27-2008 06:15 PM

Better for you if you walk or jog...

That's where I have to go to get the Jiu Jitsu class I want with the teacher I want.

GetSCORECash 07-27-2008 06:36 PM

I have a gym, walking distance, and I didn't go, even though i had paid membership.

Now I go to a gym three times a week, and the gym is a good 15 minutes by car, from my home.

tony286 07-27-2008 06:39 PM

I signed up for one that was cheaper but about 20 mins away from my house. Never went paid for two yrs. If I can commit to exercise at home for 90 days. I will then join the gym thats about 5 mins away from my home. Closer is always better.

Jim_Gunn 07-27-2008 06:41 PM

I wouldn't live anywhere far from a gym since I go every day and my time is precious. My gym is walking distance, approx. three minutes each way. Used to be five minutes by car.

woj 07-27-2008 06:41 PM

15 mins max, but that's probably even too much...

bausch 07-27-2008 06:47 PM

what is better la fitness or 24 hr fitness

la fitness is more far from my house, mapquest says
Estimated Time: 6 minutes Estimated Distance: 3.51 miles

24 hr fitness
Estimated Time: 4 minutes Estimated Distance: 1.98 miles

Walking is out of the question, i only walk on treadmills but i dont like to walk outside/on the streets. i like to drive everywhere.

Spunky 07-27-2008 06:49 PM

10 minutes from home

GAMEFINEST 07-27-2008 07:01 PM

i live 5 mins from the gym..

BlackCrayon 07-27-2008 07:25 PM

I have a membership at both clubs. LA Fitness has really great new clubs. If you live near an older one then i would say go to 24 hour fitness.

All the new LA Fitness clubs are beautifully done with the latest and greatest equipment.

You should go take a look at both clubs and see what amenities they have ( Swimming, Racquetball, sauna etc.)
:2 cents:

I also travel quite a bit and having both memberships allows me to have a gym pretty much wherever i travel in the US.

Xplicit 07-27-2008 10:57 PM

I'm about 10 mins from mine.

My boxing gym is like 3 mins away from home...I think id probably get lazy if i had to drive more than 20 mins...closer is def better keeps you from getting lazy

mynameisjim 07-27-2008 11:38 PM

I would say 20 minutes at the max. Many of my workouts are last minute things where I didn't plan on it and then all of sudden I just say "fuck it", walk out the door and go to the gym. If the gym was too far I couldn't do that.

There's a 24 hour fitness about 15 minutes from my house but the local park district has an awesome weight room and it's only 5 minutes away. Plus, 90% of the time I'm the only one in there. Also, with it being empty all he time I can pose in the mirrors like a narcissistic douche bag when I have a good pump going....lol!

Anthony 07-27-2008 11:44 PM

I'm lucky, my gym LA Fitness is 3 minutes from my house and my BJJ Academy is 5 minutes away.

SeriousConcept 07-27-2008 11:56 PM

about 25 minutes...

Antonio 07-28-2008 12:11 AM

since the beginning of the year there's a gym in the building I live, but what I do now is 100 push ups and 1 hour walking daily, I don't lose weight but I don't gain either

Violetta 07-28-2008 01:54 AM

not very far. I have a gym 3 minutes walk from home. That is perfect!

there is a la fitness thats 3.51 miles away from me but i think its an older one. I would prefer 24 hr i think because there are more locations so i can pick the one that has the least people. i can't work out in a place where there are too many people or people are too sociable etc i want to work out somewhere isolated where there are hardly any people or one that has a lot of old people. I don't want to work out in a "happening gym" with lots of young people ready to mingle etc. I only want to work out and go home and I'm not comfortable working out in a busy place.

bausch 07-28-2008 02:17 AM

Whats the best time to go for when there's no people? I am guessing between 10 and 11 am in the morning cause everyone will be at work??

Also, I hope the machines are not facing each other are they? I never went insde 24 hrs so I don't know what the layout is like... Are the machines facing each other so the person using the machine across from you can see you directly when you are working out? :(
The gym in my building had all the equipment away from each other so you're not really facing others when using the machines... I am not used to working out in a very busy place so it is rather intimidating. I also don't want to be "faced" against other people when using machines, it makes me feel self conscious and awkward.

do you have a dog? walking alone kinda sucks...

bausch 07-28-2008 02:30 AM

I read reviews on some 24 hr fitness gyms on yelp.com and a lot of people say that some of the places are like "meat markets". Is this true? I just want to work out I don't want to socialize or talk to anyone, "social scene" type places freak me out.

thunder99 07-28-2008 06:58 AM

Do you have some kind of phobia about people/public places?

kowalsky 07-28-2008 07:12 AM

I am 1 block from the gym, if it should take a car to go to a gym, probably I would go only 2 or 3 times a month...

Ross 07-28-2008 07:15 AM

I have about 5 gyms within a 15 min drive from my house. I don't go to any of them, I go to a park about 3 miles from my house and run round it every day. Distance is 4 miles - then I do some weights in my house. Its also good for taking my dog a nice walk as he comes with me.

Dafne 07-28-2008 12:36 PM

I'm really envious of all of you that have one less the 10min away, that's convienience right there. I recently moved and I had the choice of a gym or a running track by the house... and I went for the running track. But now, if the drive to the gym is 25min. The worst part, I didn't do neither for a more than a month and now I'm 5lb overweight.
