Should welfare recipients be tested for drugs?
An appeals court recently rejected an appeal from a lower court decision that OK'ed the drug testing of welfare recipients.
Some advocates say that this is discriminatory since the govt gives money to student and other groups and don't require mandatory drug testing...why focus on welfare recipients. What are your thoughts? |
Because a lot of those poor bums are poor because of their drug addiction. They don't deserve money from the feds so they can buy more drugs. Fuck 'em.

Should welfare recipients be tested for drugs?
A better question is, should there be any welfare system that is held up by our goverment or should it all be via private non-profit org's ?? |
Yes. When the tax payers are paying your way you should have no rights. If you've got nothing to hide there should be np with you having to get tested. (no not you just in general :) )
just my :2 cents: |

The problem we can't be too harsh on welfare is that the majority of the people on it are on it 1) temporarily [due to recent divorce, etc] 2) are children. |
i think u asked in the wrong place
plenty of ex-welfare recipients in the wm game im sure :1orglaugh they r testing after school activities 4 drugs in some areas now there is a big uproar about it should they test ppl who are on govt money for drugs, ya sure should they then provide counseling and not a lockdown, ya one should not happen w/o the other imo, becuz the state funded mental/drug institutions are a joke and some of these ppl cant hold a job due to their condition. :2 cents: |

just like the rich except they have to file paperwork saying how much they r making :1orglaugh privatizing any social service leads 2 corruption, extremely bad idea ... look at the foster moms and fuckn social workers themselves who get paid 2 take care of kids and they leave the fuckn bodies rotting in a closet or kids run away while they collect checks why do u think jews all run nursing homes, get ur check straight from the govt and ur customers dont complain 2 much :Graucho |
My step mom works at a welfare office and they only pay $510 to single people in Canada. They have strict work guidelines they must follow or they booted from the service and it only lasts 2 years Max.
$510 can't do shit, you can barely find rent for that price. So once someone pays for rent/food and a phoneline which is required so employers can contact you, there isn't much left to buy drugs. Not really an issue, but a drug test is fine. If someone is on welfare they should not use that money to buy drugs. I think a test should be done. How much is welfare in the US? |
its a little more i believe like 7-800 (??) a month plus some various medical coverage shits
ya its not much but we have food suppl. programs like ebt food stamps watever u qualify for many ppl on welfare in the us do work full time they just fall below a certain money lvl many of the ppl who we regard as fat/lazy/whatever are on disability or unemployment sumtimes illegally but that runs out eventually (or veterans pension etc) i think in nv they give you a few 100 chips a hooker and a dime bag (u can trade it in 4 JD if u dont have glaucoma) :thumbsup |

If it were up to me I would take it one step further.
PEOPLE ON WELFARE SHOULD NOT SMOKE You know it really pisses me off when people say they can't afford to feed their kids and they are smoking cigs that cost $5 a pack! Quit smoking a pack a day and you'd save $150 a month. Also, I don't know how it is in the rest of the country, but in Everett (north of Seattle) the low income housing (referred to as "The Projects") is full of brand new cars. People can't even speak English but they have a rent free house with a brand new car out front? What's wrong with this picture? |

This subject was on the Factor tonight. It was about the state of Michigan. Michigan apparently is the only state that requires welfare recipients to be randomly tested for drugs. O'Reilly talked over his guests as usual, but the point his guests were trying to make were, other states do not do it, people that receive other types of state and federal funding are not required to be tested, and under the 4th admendment there has to be at least the suspicion of wrong doing (apparently a Michigan judge disagreed with that). What most shocked me was that in Michigan a single mother with two children receives $459.00 per month in cash aid. Now I realize that she probably is also subsidized with food stamps, and discounted housing (providing there is enough to go around, which in most areas is not the case) but still $459.00????

Disabled people on SSI don't even get that much in most states. This is the payout for New York State residents: New York=s 2002 SSI rates: Living Alone: $632 (FBR of $545 + $87 state supplement) Living With Others: $568 (FBR of $545 + $23 state supplement) Living in Household of Another: $386.34 (FBR of $363.34 + $23 state supplement) I believe once you accept government interference into your life such as accepting money, grants etc then yes you've asked for it all. However it needs to be done equally...if the poor single mother on welfare has to have drug tests because she gets gov't money...then I say the middle class white kid at the local state college on a pell grant should have to do the same thing. |
Once you get into somebodys back pocket then you have to ready to play by their rules.
Most taxpayers dont want people on welfare buying drugs. i work and dont make enough to buy drugs. If i cant have them then they shouldn't. |
Our welfare system is a joke. It's not a safety net, it's a way of life now.
|
Or take it the step that the college loans take. Anyone that has a drug conviction is usually turned down.
Personally, if you have to resort to getting welfare, then a drug test should be part of it. I also think that IF the government has to give out money, perhaps a bit more in planning might be benificial. Not just, here is your money, go now, but, "okay, lets work on getting you a job, lets help you set up a budget." kinda thing. Or those that commit to a drug screening get a stipend, or something. edited: the "My posts are basically a brain dump" holds very true to me at this moment (just getting off of work, cant sleep) |
