Bye Bye Tito Ortiz!

Looks like Tito is officially gone over to Affliiction.

Affliction is quickly becoming the league where you go once you can no longer be competitive in the UFC and you need to make some fast cash before your career is over. Good thing these fighters are doing it now before the Affliction League goes under???

Here are the details:

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz has signed with Affliction and will debut with the promotion at Affliction 2 on October 11th against former UFC light heavyweight challenger Renato ?Babalu? Sobral, according to Yahoo! Sports:

Sources tell Yahoo! Sports that the Oct. 11 date has been submitted to the Nevada State Athletic Commission and that the first two fights named on the card are Fedor Emelianenko versus Andrei Arlovski, and the Ortiz-Babalu fight at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Roy Englebrecht will be the licensed fight promoter for the card.

Yahoo! Sports spoke with Affliction VP Tom Atencio who would not confirm the Ortiz-Babalu fight saying that details for the fight card will be released during an Aug. 6 press conference most likely in Las Vegas. Atencio also indicated that he didn?t think Affliction could speak with Ortiz until Aug. 4. Ortiz had a 60 day non-compete in his UFC contract. His last fight for UFC was on May 24 at UFC 84. If the 60 day clause is accurate, the deal ended this past weekend. Atencio said the biggest stumbling block for an Ortiz deal are the financial terms.

Ortiz (15-6-1) fulfilled his contract with the UFC in May with a unanimous decision loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC 84. ?The Huntington Beach Bad Boy? has failed to win his last three bouts and has not posted a victory since a late-2006 win over Ken Shamrock.

Sobral (30-7) dropped back-to-back bouts in the UFC against Chuck Liddell and Jason Lambert but bounced back with a submission win over David Heath at UFC 74. The win, however, sent ?Babalu? out of the UFC as he initially refused to release the choke and was subsequently fined and released by the UFC. Sobral won his third-straight bout at Affliction ?Banned? with a unanimous decision victory over Mike Whitehead.

I was at a bar two weekends ago and watched the Affliction event side by side with the UFC event. I have to say I enjoyed the Affliction event more. May just have been me. But we shall see

no surprise considering Ortiz was on Trump's tv show recently and they seemed to get along really well.. Trump is the man behind Affliction.

I thougth the opposite. The announcers for affliction kind of put me to sleep to be honest. It seemed kinda boring.

Bottom line is the UFC pays their fighters shit. Guys who want to make decent money are going to go somewhere else.

Affliction doesn't have the depth to really make waves outside of the HW division. I really don't see them doing this for any reason other than to sell a few more t-shirts. I see them putting on a few events a year to keep interest in the brand and other than that they won't be a serious player like UFC, Dream, EliteXC, and WEC.

The other promotions like Affliction and Elite XC, and the WEC (owned by Zuffa, same owners as the UFC) all have some very good fighters that can compete with the top UFC fighters in different weight classes plus in some lighter weight classes like bantamweight and featherweight that the UFC does not have. The availability of other fight promotions gives fighters a chance to make more money rather than have the UFC be a complete monopoly.

That last affliction card was BADASS, I think i enjoyed that event just as much as any ufc. Oh and Arlovski vs Fedor, thats gonna be a good one!
