Whats the coolest/most liberal city in California?

I'm considering getting a place out there for when i want to get away from all the neo-conservatives on the east coast.

I'm still going to stay out here half the time to be with family etc.

But i seriously need a nice relaxed "reset" city to spend half my time in.

I know the only place I'll ever be happy living my liberal lifestyle is in Cali......

So lets hear a ton of suggestions all my KaleeFoRnia peoples :pimp

Which do you want? The coolest, or the one with militant hippies spouting off about your being a devil for wearing Nikes?

I highly recommend San Diego.

Make a trip, set up a reservation at the Catamaran Resort located on the Bay. Get a room that walks out to the beach. On the Bay, less then a 3 minute walk across the straight to the ocean the other direction, cool area, lot's of beautiful laid back people.

KB and I used to live that life.

THAT is what you need.

I now take vacations blocks away from where I used to live.

Get a place at Lake Tahoe. Pick the NV side, claim it as your main residence and pay no state income tax. Incline Village would be my choice. :thumbsup

rhon23 07-30-2008 11:51 AM

I love Hollywood.

I think I'm going to take a trip out to Hollywood in a week or 2 to visit an industry friend. I will setup that exact vacation as the second leg of my trip. Thank you for the tip :thumbsup

Hope all the beautiful people are ready for my fat ass :winkwink:

I don't live in cali, but always thought Santa Barbara would be the shit...

That or Del Mar, Carlsbad etc- North of San Diego

Just an FYI.....As someone who goes to the Catamaran 2X a year to get away from Los Angeles, be prepared, it is really more of a family resort and kinda geard towards kids (thats why we go :) ) but figured Id mention it incase you were looking fo more ädult" fun , Buit I concur....San Diego is a great town !

XPays 07-30-2008 12:12 PM

as far as "cool" goes, s.f. is the place to be. it was 57 degrees here yesterday.

triumph 07-30-2008 12:38 PM

Santa Monica is awesome. Close to the beach, easy going fun city. Also Newport Beach is great.

its waaay different than LA, I'd take SF over Hollywood anyday though. But I did Hollywood for years, it burned me out.

we'll be in Humboldt in about 2010 though. Way up north with the farming hippies. wheeee

When you head out Californee Way, we have to go hit up Sunset at least once :pimp

WebairGerard 07-30-2008 12:58 PM

SF gets my vote bud

Hollywood Horwitz 07-30-2008 01:03 PM

I'm gonna say Malibu or Zuma Beach, its insanely pricey but it's by far the nicest and most relaxed setting. The beaches aren't crowded and it's close to "cool" areas of Cali, i.e. Hollywood..

It's my dream to retire around Calistoga at the upper edge of Napa Valley. Plenty of wine to choose from and many reasonably priced day spas to unwind at. It's about 1.5 hours from San Francisco.

Vegas Ken 07-30-2008 01:34 PM

Liberal - San Francisco
Coolest - San Diego (imho)

San Fran gets my vote. A great mixture of people. I'm out there every other weekend. :thumbsup

uno 07-30-2008 01:46 PM

Hey pr0, hit me on icq. I sent you a few msgs, but no response.

ADL Colin 07-30-2008 01:49 PM

Buncha food nazis in California. Banned trans fats and now LA has banned any new fast food restaurants from opening in a poor neighborhood.

BradM 07-30-2008 01:50 PM

San Fran. :) Weather is shit tho. So move to So Cal. Expensive property.

Can't win them all in CA... few drawbacks to every area.

You really want to come to California because the East Coast is neo-conservative?

Leave all of your guns behind because this fucked up state banned them all...

san francisco bay area without a doubt, check out marin & sausalito if you want to be away from excessive urban/downtown bs.... its right across the golden gate + it doesn't get hit w/ that heavy fog as hard as sf... its like the fog rolls away from it

still gets foggy tho
