is this SHAVING ????

Ok, we all know that various affiliate softwares like to claim a reputation of being shave free. I would like to challenge that!

To my understanding it means that all traffic I send to the signup page of a program with my link are shared by the parameters given at signup . i.e. 50/50 ....

Now, I see a lot of programs that do give me revshare links that are supposed to be 50/50, but when I test their signup pages they are full of pre-checked radio buttons for other programs that the surfer is about to join. I have never seen a credit for those kind of cross sells in my revshare stats in any program ( I am talking about revshare .... I never promote PPS programs).

Am I missing something or is this the new way of cheating surfers and affiliates at the same time?

IllTestYourGirls 07-30-2008 05:33 PM

if you are not getting paid for the xsales in revshare why are you promoting them in the first place?

Iron Fist 07-30-2008 05:35 PM

What he said ^^^^

A leak is a leak... period.... don't promote them - they are fucking you over.

There are quite a few companies that don't pay for "cross sales" but still credit you for your normal sales. Years ago Vivid Cash used to be one of them (back before the new guys took over, maybe about two years ago?). Doesn't mean they are shaving but you need to know up front what you are getting into with any company you do business with. Those of us who were doing business with them years ago knew that if we sent them our traffic, we weren't going to get credit for any additional sales they made ... aka cross sales. I don't like it but it wasn't unethical because well we agreed to this up front and we knew what we were getting into. *** TO BE CLEAR VIVID CASH TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE CURRENTLY DOES NOT DO THIS.

Shaving is when you send a company X amount of traffic, some of that traffic you don't get credit for. This means if you send company X 4,000 uniques, they my not give you credit for say 500 of them. Someone from those 500 signs up for a membership you don't get credit for that sale.

A "leak" however is something very different and also just as bad because you lose sales. Let's say you send X amount of traffic to a free hosted gallery page. In theory anyone who joins the website through visiting that FHG page you should get credit for right?

Not always the case. Sometimes they "accidentally" mess up a link in the page or sometimes two and as a result the link is hard coded without your tracking ID and if anyone joins the site via clicking that link on the page, you are screwed out of the commission.

This is more common that you may think and it costs you god only knows how much in sales. The long and short of it is CHECK EVERY SINGLE LINK ON EVERY SINGLE PAGE YOU SEND TRAFFIC TO!

Oh man, I would never promote a revshare sponsor with pre-checked X-sales unless I am getting 50% from them too.

You'd be surpised what else is going on there besides those check boxes you can see.

Too many sites have shitty members areas that don't retain so you maybe get 50% of a monthly for a signup.

But the inside is packed with upsells, which is where the program makes it's money.:321GFY

don't promote revshare unless you see members area first, that's a must.

There's a big debate about that in another thread which links OCCash to stuff like this.

Nothing has changed. Sponsors will fuck the affiliates any chance they get. They'll also fuck the surfer and hard now.

The other thread talked of something like the surfer getting hammered with a 100 Euro bill if he didn't cancel the trials.

And they say the industry is dying... lol

Penny24Seven 07-30-2008 06:56 PM

I promote my other sites in the members area and all the sites are in the same program. It happens a lot that someone joins one site and then joins another one of my sites from the members area and the affiliate gets credit for both sales :)
Now that I think about it I have never even bothered saying that and I should be using that to give someone another reason to join our program. Also we do not have any X sales on the tour

I have no problem with a revshare program having xsells if they are paying out a higher percentage, like 60-70%.

Most programs give you a choice of PPS or revshare. I know a lot of programs fuck surfers over with multiple free or 1 Dollar trials and you need a magnifying glass to identify the small print of the terms to know that each of them will rebill for 40 bucks if not canceled within a day or 2. You really need to dig deep to find a contact to cancel.

That said and the fact that I just promote very few sites inside the programs I always opt for revshare. I thought that revshare links would be more honest and that a) the surfer would not get fucked over and b) I would get a real revshare. I just recently looked at signup forms more closely to find out about these deceptive advertising tactics of some of the bigger programs around. This is all very shady and questionable and I will sort them out one by one.

I am afraid to say, those are the kind of things that make surfers turn their back on paid porn and resort to free tube sites.

BTW, I have nothing against upsells or crosssells inside the members area as long as there is some real content on the sites, but those pre-marked checkboxes on signup forms with very small fine print regarding the real cost of the transaction far below the signup button are not a proper way of business conduct.

Exactly! So the point is to know and ~trust~ the company you get into bed with. Do your homework, research the site and program owners and read the fine print as if you were a customer BEFORE you send traffic.

Over the past 13 years, I've seen the adult net migrate to the 'pay as you go' model...i.e. VOD sites and Clip sites. Why? Because the surfers are a lot more educated and much like webmasters are sick of getting fucked over by the unethical membership sites out there; which unfortunately, there are many of.

We've all be talking about this for years....the scammers, the shavers and the downright illegal...they haven't ruined the industry, but they sure have helped put a bad taste in the mouth of both porn purveyors and us peddlers.

I have sites that are 5 to 10 years old and back then most programs were working hard on producing good sites. I missed the development to the worse ....
