So, who is going to be watching the opening ceremony?

It starts in about an hour. I am not one for most of the entertainment that goes on at the opening ceremonies but yet I watch it every time. I still like watching the countries walk in but then I am the type of person that also enjoys the roll call of States at the Democrat and Republican conventions.

So, anybody going to be watching live with me?

Spudman 08-08-2008 03:54 AM

yeah i'll probably have it on in the background whilst working, got to keep an eye out to see if any nutty protestors try and do anything at the ceremony.

Sarah_Jayne 08-08-2008 03:58 AM

Yeah, it will be a background thing..watching dancers and fireworks with too much attention isn't my thing.

Sarah_Jayne 08-08-2008 04:56 AM

And here we go.....

Sarah_Jayne 08-08-2008 04:59 AM

Okay, the light thing with the count down is pretty cool.

Spudman 08-08-2008 05:01 AM

that count down was cool, you could see a few of the drummers making mistakes tho :)

Sarah_Jayne 08-08-2008 05:02 AM

Yeah and I did think I wouldn't want to be the one messing up but it looked cool.

So far the opening is great
really liked the drums and fire works so far
that march of fireworks was cool.

Spudman 08-08-2008 05:14 AM

they really know how to put on a fireworks display! awesome

Sarah_Jayne 08-08-2008 05:24 AM

So far it isn't nearly as boring as they have been in previous years.

Konda 08-08-2008 05:25 AM

Very nice sofar. The 'boxes' thing going on now looks great also.

Sarah_Jayne 08-08-2008 05:28 AM

The boxes were representing the invention of movable type. It really showed just how many people are involved with doing this ceremony. London will be lucky to have 50 people..lol

yys 08-08-2008 05:30 AM

Better then most I've seen so far. I like the invention themes; The movable type display looked awesome. Chinese are putting on a good show. :thumbsup

SomeCreep 08-08-2008 05:37 AM

If I dig straight down far enough, I will end up in China. Then I can watch the Olympics in person.

Tat2Jr 08-08-2008 05:50 AM

I've never seen any part of the olympics in my entire life. Don't want to break a 39 year streak.... although I can't wait to see the highlights of the opening ceremony on the nightly news. I'm sure all my money I spend at walmart will be used to put on a good show!

Spudman 08-08-2008 05:53 AM

thats one fucking big plasma screen!!!!!!

You have never seen a single event on tv? It was so much of a tradition with my family as a kid that that is hard for me to imagine.

Sarah_Jayne 08-08-2008 06:12 AM

Now we get the athletes and they are in the order of Chinese characters...last time when it was in the order of the Greek alphabet I had no idea what order in which the teams were arriving.

Konda 08-08-2008 06:17 AM

I am watching it with no audio, but what I saw sofar was really good. Amazing!

Not a single one. I remember that mickey mouse sounding girl who broke her leg or foot or something and still jumped around on that beam (and won?), but only because I'm a national news junky (and there was a King of the Hill episode that mentions her).

I hate sports... pretty much all of them, although basketball can be fun to watch if you've got a winning home team (but since I'm from Portland and my team was the trailblazers - well... you get the picture). :(

I saw your first post and I wondered if you were commenting on them waffling on.

Spudman 08-08-2008 06:24 AM

this has to be the most boring part, seeing all the athletes stroll in.

Sarah_Jayne 08-08-2008 06:25 AM

I like it but it feels a bit muted this time...apart from when Taipei came in
