Craigslist question
How the hell does Craigslist make any money? I thought that a few categories such as employment opportunities were paid ads, but no, they're free.
It's gotta be one of the biggest sites on the net but how is it monetized? |
He lives in a small apartment in S.F. He's not in it for the money.

I believe some categories in some cities have fee's associated with posting...
|
They charge for employment and housing ads in certain cities only :)
|
it's actually kind of cool, it's like how the net used to be, when people started all kinds of websites cuz they liked it, not because the keyword is good and they can throw up a whole bunch of garbage adsense ads
|
I've offered to pay them for listings and they turned me down because the market I wanted listings in was not a paid market. I'm talking for mainstream stuff too, not adult.

help > posting fees
All craigslist postings are free, except for: 1. Job posts in the San Francisco Bay Area The fee for posting a job in the SF Bay Area is $75. This fee pays for one job in one category. (One job posted in two different categories would cost $150.) 2. Job posts in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Orange County, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, Seattle, and Washington DC The fee for posting a job in these cities is $25. This fee pays for one job in one category. (One job posted in two different categories would cost $50.) 3. Brokered apartment rental listings in New York The fee for posting a brokered apartment rental in New York City is $10. |

Ebay bought craigslist.org quite some time ago. They do charge for some listings in larger markets.
