Yes there is. Home made tomato sauce from canned tomatoes. Fresh is always way to acidic and of the wrong consistency no matter how you do it or try to argue it.

Home grown tomatoes do rock for nearly everything else though such as eating normal, salsas, and what not. Hell it is the only time I will eat tomatoes during the year is when they are fresh, unless its for a sauce and they were canned. Well I also will eat dehydrated ones and canned ones for other purposes but never fresh out of season.

No I wont :)
You will not even find a known cheff who would also agree :)

Though if you have a chance using tomatoes is a great way to do some salt tastings. Get yourself like 5-10 different types of salts and try a little bit of one salt on a slice and duplicate until you get through all the salts.

As for your lunch haha mine was some fucacia bread tosted, with a tomato-basil-garlic-chili-olive oil-salt-pepper mixture with a piece of bacon on each slice.
