WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-20-2008 03:45 PM

Thats what happens when a better Candidate was on the Democratic ticket and loses due to back stabbing shit. 1/2 the people that betrayed the CLintons were on the CLinton Payroll and all of them went to Prime time news sources to talk shit on the Clintons and endorse Obama.

The Democrats are corrupt and bankrupt morally.

The American people saw that shit go down and I for one believe many Americans saw what I saw as well. I saw the wife of one of Americ'as best President's get beaten to a pulp and back stabbed by her own supposed inner circle of fellow Democratic politicans.

Congrats McCaine! If I didnt see Hillary get shamed the way she did I wouldnt be voting for you!

On every poll. So the ones that showed Obama was ahead by 7 points had a margin of error as well . . . . I guess just a little higher.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 08-20-2008 03:54 PM

I don't even think it matters at this point. Until recently I've thought that Obama had to be the lesser of two evils. Now I'm not so sure there is a lesser this time around.

Tempest 08-20-2008 03:54 PM

To be expected... McCain has flip flopped on being a straight shooter and is busy pandering to everyone.. I watched a little of that faith thing the other night and felt like puking listening to him.. Used to think he was a decent guy... But at the end of the day, he understands that the majority of the population in the US (well, all countries actually) are stupid sheep and so he knows that playing to their fears and telling them what they want to hear is what it takes to win..

mynameisjim 08-20-2008 03:54 PM

I've always thought McCain could beat Obama. The national polls don't matter as much as the big states like Ohio and Florida and a few others where McCain has a real advantage.

I'm also predicting McCain will kill Obama in the debates. Not because of his rhetoric, but because he will make Obama come off like an arrogant know-it-all beating up on an old man, a war veteran, and someone who "earned" their place to be a candidate which will play right to the people McCain needs to win over.

Obama's only chance is to pick Hillary as a running mate. He needs that 15% that backed her but will not support Obama. If McCain gets those, he wins. Simple as that.

P.S. I don't want McCain to win.

DateDoc 08-20-2008 03:55 PM

No wonder Obama was calling for McCain to end his constant claims that Obama is unpatriotic and not American enough. It is working for McCain. We'll be seeing a lot more ads now.

Net Money 08-20-2008 03:55 PM

This is actually Great news..:thumbsup

Barefootsies 08-20-2008 03:57 PM

Keep in mind that these "polls" are done by hard line phone polling.

How many of YOU still have hard lines?

Exactly.

Correct. And that is why he WILL WIN.

Yep... Been saying that would be the probable outcome the day he entered the race, especially against Obama.. Obama is MADE for fear mongering, racism and the like.. And as much as the media and the vocal Obama supporters like to think it's not that big a deal, it really is. Obama is the epitome of what's wrong with most of the Dems.. He talks too much and tells things like they are which is far too complicated for the majority of the voters. If you can't boil it down to one sort sentence that's plays to the fears, greed, fantasy world and/or patriotism of the sheep, then you can't win.

Socks 08-20-2008 04:21 PM

lolz Mccain came back from the war to find his wife had waited for him - but had been in a terrible car accident, survived fine.. So what does McCain do? Start cheating on her immediately, then leave her for the richest chick he could find.. Then the new chick's father/family basically hooked his broke ass up from there, carefully moving him through the political ranks..

He's the definition of a puppet. He's had a hand up his ass controlling his every move for decades now.

Malicious Biz 08-20-2008 04:24 PM

You're Welcome, John.

He has my avatar and sig to thank for his recent surge in the polls.

cem 08-20-2008 04:30 PM

Who cares anyhow. We all know american elections are fixed.

kane 08-20-2008 05:56 PM

Just like the last election did this one will come down to two basic things.

1. who can pull the best shenanigans off on election day in the very close battleground states.
2. Can Obama actually mobilize the far left?

Kerry went into election day thinking he had one. He lost for two reasons. The republicans in Ohio were able to manipulate the system well enough that it made it harder for the democrats to get out and vote and Kerry was happy with all the new voters he had registered and his supposed support from the far left and on election day they didn't turn up and vote.

If Obama can actually get the far left to put the bong down long enough to vote he will win. If not, he will lose. It really is that simple.

National polls mean nothing because of the electoral college. He is actually making headway into states that are traditionally republican stronghold states and he will have a ton of money to spend during the election. This is far from over, but will be very close.

Actually, I just realized I have never had a land line in my name. I got a cell phone when I was 16 and still living with my parents and I've kept the same number ever since. The last time I lived in a place where someone else in the same house had a land line was about 4 years ago. I honestly don't anticipate ever getting one.

:2 cents:

Here is the problem. Many of the people that have a cell phone only (I am among them) are younger people. There is a whole generation of people that have no hard line phone and may never have a hard line phone. While the polls don't include them, the often don't vote. Obama will have to figure out a way to motivate all of these people and get them to the polls and history has shown that is not an easy task.

Sleestak Attack 08-20-2008 08:05 PM

Kind of what I figured. if you vote, you are one of the exceptions to the rule.

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard that...

But that being said, do you have data to back this up? Are there actual numbers showing how having a land line correlates to voting?

TheDoc 08-20-2008 08:25 PM

Most people with cable or sat have a land line phone so they can order ppv :)

Out of all our friends/family, only a few answer the home phone, even if you call 100 times. Less than a few have a cell phone only, most have a home phone, most don't answer it but will answer the cell phone if you call it.

I think all of my friends/family vote, they all seem to act like they do at least. What I see is a bunch of people that pay for a home phone that never use the damn thing.

Polls are gay and should be banned.
