I Cannot Connect To The Net
 
I cannot connect to the net with IE or Firefox using my laptop. However, google talk and msn messenger do work. Seriously WTF? Can anybody help?:helpme:helpme

try flushing your browser cache... then flushing your DNS ... from CMD >>> ipconfig /flushdns

I fail to see the issue. Would you call Exxon if you had a flat tire on your car? Or would you prefer higher rates so your ISP can help everyone that has any type of problem, whether it is Internet related or not?

You have a valid point. However, had I not mentioned that messenger services worked they would have helped me out. Furthermore, this was an online chat and in the time the fellow spent with me he could have helped me out. They have no obligation to help, but, a little help would have been appreciated. There are companies out there that go above and beyond. Nothing wrong with that. To bad videotron is not one of those companies.

Yes, your ISP may be able to help you determine if the problem was modem or router related, but you had already proven that is was neither.

Why didn't you ask him to come over and mow the lawn when he got off work?

The time he spent arguing with me was time he could have helped me. It is probably a 5 minute solution. Nothing wrong with stepping off the reservation to help a client.
I am sure that in this competitive economy, you would spend 5 or 10 minutes to try to help one of your clients if the problem was peripherally related.

First things first...

Reboot.

If that doesn't work, turn off your pc again, reset your cable/dsl modem (if you have one), then reset your router (if you have one) and then boot once more.

If that doesn't work then open up a command prompt with "cmd"

ping yahoo.com to see if you get a reply...

If you do get a reply your dns is okay

If not, it's your ISP's fault. Call and complain and/or change your DNS to OpenDNS' servers.

That is because I am an owner, not some help desk employee. Big difference.

And it really did not seem like he was arguing with you. He was simply telling you it was out of his league, he had other customers with real problems to assist. If anyone was arguing, it would seem to be you. :2 cents:
