is there such a thing as a free ebay style auction script
i have seen a few on the internet but sod paying those prices for a projects that might not work

You get what you pay for. I've never seen a decent free one around. I've payed for one called phpprobid. Its pretty decent, the site I was using it on was for a client who was trying to get an import car site off the ground. Its a nice script and not that bad price wise.

still $499 as i remember though
tis a lot of money to just test if there is a market for what you want
