How do you dispose of an old dreamcatcher?

I hope the Canadians guys here can help.

I bought a home a year ago, in SEA.
It has been build and own by a Canadian guy for 7 years.

I basically cannot sleep soundly in the master bedroom (very agitated sleep, etc).

I just re-discovered (saw it before when I bought the house, but forgot about it) an old dreamcatcher behind the curtains...a meter away from the bed head.

How do I dispose of it? What is the tradition?
Hang it in the garden? Bury it in the ground?

Tips are welcome.

Thanks in advance to all the GFY Shamans.

what does it look like?

BusterBunny 08-30-2008 12:49 AM

i am no holy man but the oracle says...

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...9141425AAh5JWd

The question is, was the Dreamcatcher blessed before you wore it.
If not, it is just a bit of wire and string and you can dispose of it as you would any other object (trash).
On the other hand if it has been blessed, you must release the energies.
I'll give you a small ritual: Note this is a scaled down modified native American ritual that is appropriate for de-energizing an Artifact (energized item).
First gather the following items:
1) small swath of earth-toned color cloth (big enough to wrap the Dreamcatcher)
2) small bowl
3) some water (about 3 cups)
4) sea salt (it's purer than table salt but table salt will do)
5) a spade or shovel.
6) matches
7) sandalwood incense

First off find a wooded area. Not necessarily the back yard but it will do. Gather your items to your left and kneel.
All Rituals should start with some kind of "prayer". Since this is a native American Ritual perhaps it should be worded something like this: "Mother Earth, Father Sky I kneel before you to release your spirit children from my service."
Then lay your cloth before you. Place the bowl at the center of the cloth. Remove the Dreamcatcher and place it in the bowl. Light the incense. Wave the incense over the bowl and say: "Spirit of Wind come and guide these spirits from this vessel. Lead them away from this vessel and guide them onto their next incarnation." Set the incense aside but don't extinguish it. Light a match. Wave the lit match over the Dreamcatcher and say: "Spirit of Fire come and cleanse with cleansing fire, this vessel, destroying all trace of the Spirits presence." The match may not stay lit, just use another until you have singed the Dreamcatcher. You don't have to completely burn it up. Now pour the water into the bowl with the Dreamcatcher and say: "Spirit of Water come and purify this item in your gentle embrace. Purify this item, remove all trace of occupancy." The grab a pinch of salt and sprinkle it into the water and say" Spirit of Earth come and seal this item and block the residence of any Spirits who wish to dwell within." Then using your spade, dig a small hole ( 6 inches deep). Remove the Dreamcatcher from the bowl and wrap it in your cloth. Set the bowl aside, but do not empty it yet. Place the wrapped Dreamcatcher in the hole and fill in the hole. Now take the spent matches and incense and place them in the water. Pour the contents upon the ground and say:"Spirits I thank you for your help in my tasks. Please return to whence you came and go with my blessings and thanks. My Will Be Done. May The Circle Be Complete!" This capitalized part should be spoken forcefully. Finish with a prayer: "Mother Earth, Father Sky, I thank you for sending your Children to my aid. My Will Be Done. May The Circle Be Complete!" The Dreamcatcher has been properly released and you will not receive any bad "Karma" from abandoning it.
I hope this helps...

Bless,
Brother Reggie

Why can't you just bless someone else with it.

Give it to someone and be for real about it.

Mr Pheer 08-30-2008 01:09 AM

Just throw it in the fucking trash. Why does everything have to be so difficult?

Babaganoosh 08-30-2008 01:13 AM

Don't fuck with that shit. Do it right just on the off chance that indian stuff is legit. I bought a dream catcher just after high school at one of the local native american university fund raisers. Several years later I got tired of looking at the thing hanging in my room and I trashed it.

Two nights later there was an owl that sat on a limb outside my second story bedroom window all night. He was there for 3-4 nights keeping me awake and just generally creeping me out. Before that I had never seen an owl in our area of town let alone in my own back yard. If it was just a coincidence it sure freaked me out.

Toss it in the garbage and realize you control what happens in your life.

2012 08-30-2008 01:42 AM

i think you should hang that one in a tree behind where you live but not in your backyard:2 cents: and just forget about it. you're too superstitious ...

beemk 08-30-2008 01:44 AM

throw it in the trash. do you believe in santa and the easter bunny too?

majortom 08-30-2008 02:09 AM

Ooops it's 20 cm diameter.

Yep, I realize I control my life, even better I create (my own) reality as my neurons fire away.

I don't see that as a reason to NOT inform myself on other people traditions.

Thanks Busterbunny and Babaganoosh for your insights.

I'm going to relocate it with kind words (and a mission) in a nice place in the garden.

Informing yourself on traditions is different from actually following those traditions.

What's next? Are you going to sacrifice people every day to make sure the sun will come up the next day, like the Aztecs? If a family member of yours dies, will you leave him out in the open to get eaten by vultures, like the Zoroastrians? If your child suffers from headaches, will you get an African witchdoctor to drive out the demons?

Shed your superstitions. Live in freedom.

Exactly. The people who lived there before you probably just got it from some cheezy flea market stand anyway.

Oh my god... I'm scared now. About ten years ago I insulted Jesus, and two years later, my uncle died. It must've been my fault :helpme

Sacrificing humans for the Sun to come up?....Uncanny. Done that in a previous life.

Yes, here we have "strange traditions" too, burial last 3 days with full monks and musics and incenses and all the regalia to bid farewell to the spirits...and 3 years later do it again...just to make sure....

Curing the cold is done by stripping (nearly bloody) you like a zebra with tiger balm and a coke bottle cap along acupuncture line...

And yes we believe in many "strange things"...
You know like in the kung fu movies...for Us all that stuff is real.

Is that a problem for you?

Was he selling Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses and the bootleg of Dark Knight too?

I haven't been to a flea market in ages. I miss the Miami flea market where they sell cut mango dressed with vinegar, salt, and pepper. Sounds strange, but really good.

Sounds like it. It's like chitlin's (or chitterlings) in a broth. I don't eat it because I don't eat pork (except rare cravings), but I have heard its good for a hangover. And I think it is the intestines of a pig or sometimes head cheese or pigs feet (whatever's left over) plus vinegar and spices.
