What is the best method for copying all th shit you want to a new pc or new hd?
I'm replacing my laptop with a new laptop and replacing my desktop primary HD with a bigger one. Is there any software to help copy shit to the new hd? I dont want to forget anything but I obviously will. Maybe software can get it all?

The best way to do it is just to make sure you have your hard drive well organized. Get the new machine up on your network and copy all your files over.
Don't forget to NOT copy over your "Program Files" directory (I'm assuming your using a pc and not a mac) You are going to have to re-install all of your programs so don't copy that Program Files folder over or you'll fuck everything up. Make sure to go into your documents folder and find your bookmarks folder and yank it over too. Plus any site manager files for ftp, email files, stats remote files, etc. Then once you install all of your programs you can import or drop those files into the program and re-gain all of your old configurations. |
Just spend the time and move it all by hand..

Organization is key. Try to use My Documents on a PC for everything maybe. All your data directories, etc.. and when the time comes you can just move "My Documents" over. If it's too late for that, the new system is the perfect time to keep organization in mind.

Did the new HD come with software that will clone the original HD?. As I recall, WD's do. Use that. It 'should' be painless (knock on wood).
