Damn. I didnt know Katrina hit N.O. as a CAT 3, Gustav is hitting as a CAT 4

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the fuck out now.

The geologists in N.O. said that the land mass that slows the storm surge was 75% removed from Katrina.

That means that Gustav will not slow down like Katrina did when it hit N.O.

If you are in N.O., don't be dumb, go!

Fucking A! They are even saying that Gustav could be a CAT 5 because of the very very warm water in the Gulf right now.

http://www.wunderground.com/tropical.../at200807.html

Also, there are a few that are saying there is the possibility that it could hook hard right and hit Tampa.

Those are a small number. The majority are saying direct hit N.O. again :(

marketsmart 08-31-2008 03:19 PM

the hurricane wasnt what fucked up N/O... it was the flooding...

i am pretty confident that the levees are going to fail again...

correct.

i saw a big special on the discovery channel about the pumps and so forth. well, to this date, only one of the pumping stations have had their pumps and electrical infrastructures moved above the sea level line. so probably same thing is gonna happen again. they had to turn off the pumps so they wouldnt short out. they will have to do that again.

this is not what N.O. needs.

the special on discovery also said that the shoreline in NO is naturally eroding at such a rate that the city won't even be there in 100 years anyhow.

Time to just close it and move everyone out. :(

:(

sadly, this hurricane could be the death blow to N.O.

let me see if i can find a link to the show that discovery channel did on the info i just posted.

Buoys have reported 34' swells in the Gulf and a ship reported wave heights of 45.9 feet. :helpme

DateDoc 08-31-2008 03:30 PM

Louisiana Gov. Jindal says the levees are not fully restored and it won't be until 2011 before they are expected to protect from a 100-year event. He said, "We shouldn't count on them to protect our lives."

BusterBunny 08-31-2008 03:33 PM

just walked in the door havent seen any news yet but the northeast click at the end of that gif is wayyy bad news

SuzzyQ 08-31-2008 03:34 PM

Katrina became a Cat 5 over the Gulf before becoming a Cat 3 when it hit land.

http://www.mongabay.com/images/exter...8-28-2005d.jpg http://www.mongabay.com/images/exter...8-28-2005d.jpg
Inside the eye wall of Katrina as a Cat 5.

They are totally screwed

Malicious Biz 08-31-2008 03:38 PM

Looks as if it may hit slightly to thge west of the city. if so they will get the bad part of the storm surge unlike with katrina. that eastern side of the hurricane will push way more water inland.

i really feel for those people down there. they just started to make progress on getting the city ready for another 100 year storm.

they wont be ready for a gustav type hurricane the way its projected until 2011.
:(

the whole bottom half of Louisiana has formed from erosion. Years and years of rushing Mississippi rapids bringing the peninsula on down. I wouldnt expect it to be the most stable compared to other normal coast lines.

brassmonkey 08-31-2008 04:20 PM

hmm most people are gone the ones there will probably be arrested

seeric 08-31-2008 04:43 PM

they are now saying CAT 3 impact. doubtful that it will fizzle into a tropical storm, but at least they are now saying that it isn't gaining more strength. that right side of the storm is the killer side. up to 20 foot storm surges. shit.

tony286 08-31-2008 04:54 PM

man scary shit

pornask 08-31-2008 10:27 PM

I'm planning a vacation in Cuba in October or November. Anyone knows if there's gonna be any funny shit happening in that area in a couple of months form now?

AMDWarrior 08-31-2008 10:41 PM

Im in Baton Rouge not too far from N.O. spose to smack us pretty good in about 10-11 Hrs.

seeric 08-31-2008 11:01 PM

its hurricane season. this is one of many to come through Caribbean, Cuba, and through Hurricane Alley into the Gulf Coast regions.

this will be a bad year for hurricanes.

GatorB 08-31-2008 11:04 PM

It's Cat 3 hurricane and barely one at that with 115 MHP winds. When the eye hits land it most likely will be cat 2.

kmanrox 08-31-2008 11:06 PM

CAT3 now

and i think this storm is way overhyped... the news ratings prolly have never been higher... .02

CrystaliZed 08-31-2008 11:15 PM

...and I thought living in South Dakota sucked...

seeric 09-01-2008 01:23 AM

100 people who are alive now in N.O. will be dead in 18 hours. Statistics demand it.

Sad.

:(

katrina hit as cat 3.

this one has slowed dramatically and is building eyewall strength.

whats really fucked is the eye is going to miss NO, but the dirty right side is going to slam them.

terrible.

analyze it armchair forecasters. i'm doing it too.

Yeah the scary part is the storm surge on that side.

http://icons-pe.wunderground.com/dat...0807_surge.gif

Pay close attention to where the 15-18 foot surge is. Isn't that where they have 9 foot levees?
