wisdom teeth coming out tomorrow.

What can I expect in terms of pain and aftermath? It will be under local anesthetic, they don't put you under in this country because a doctor has to be present to put you out. A dental surgeon is not allowed to gas you.

Its not that bad...I had mine taken out with the old numbing jabs I think the bleeding was the worst, compared to the actual pulling of the tooth. It will be pretty tender for a few days after but you will be suprised how quick it heals

Good luck it will be over before you know it :thumbsup

I just had a tooth pulled 2 weeks ago .. sucked big time.. just the sound sucks.. I felt like I was in a horror movie.. I had some ok pain killers :)

halfpint 09-01-2008 03:22 PM

Oh also dont choke on those stupid cotton things they stuff in your mouth after and they say "now bite down hard on that until the bleeding stops" fucking stupid dentists. I was allready choking on the blood and they tell me to that..idiots

Sosa 09-01-2008 03:24 PM

I was put out when I had mine done. The pain afterwards wasn't really that bad. Had some good pain killers I guess.

MaDalton 09-01-2008 03:25 PM

i had no problems at all - one pain pill, that was it. easy like pulling a hair

k0nr4d 09-01-2008 03:31 PM

i typically have really bad luck so they are probably going to have to cut away a huge section of jaw and im gonna swell up like a fucking watermelon or something

Spunky 09-01-2008 04:36 PM

As long as they aren't impacted ,it shouldn't be too bad.and don't smoke for about a week afterwards

mikesouth 09-01-2008 04:43 PM

ok heres some tips

1 get all 4 done at once if possible that way you deal woth it once and its done

2 its gonna bleed...a lot should let up in an hour...the gauze is a pain but you need it...get extra

3 they will likely give you vicodin take 2 the first few doses.

4 do NOT drink through a straw

5 do NOT smoke

6 don not drink anything sweet

the last 3 will help you avoid a dry socket

when you feel well enough to eat do so be it soup or whatever the pain will last 2-3 days then pretty much subside to a bearable level

you DO NOT want a dry socket...unsweet tea actually helps prevent them anything with sugar is bad

deal with it for a couple of days and you will be ok

tical 09-01-2008 06:31 PM

i had 3 pulled, its like this :)

moneybiz 09-01-2008 07:21 PM

ice cream :)

When I had mine pulled, I never even took pain medication -- not even tylenol -- only antibiotics...and it wasnt even bad. However, the most disgusting thing are the stitches...they are nasty when they start coming out -- YUCK! You'll be fine.

Phil21 09-01-2008 07:31 PM

Just had it done.. wasn't too bad. I was put "under" sort of, the injection of whatever makes you just not give a fuck. That was pretty interesting. "woke up" halfway through to lots of tugging on my jaw, and was only mildly annoyed about being woken up from my good dream and wanted to get back to sleep :) Don't really remember much else.

Don't schedule anything for at minimum that day, and I would highly suggest the day after. I was out of it the day of.

The worst part for me was the numbness. I had very impacted teeth, and when removed I swelled up bad. The removal and swelling pinched my nerves, and man I couldn't feel a thing for 24+ hours. I was starting to freak out a little, but after the second night I woke up in the morning and feeling was starting to come back.

So for me.. the pain wasn't really bad at all. The pain meds take care of it fine, and are overkill - at least for me - after a few days. Worst part was the bleeding/numbness/swelling the day of. Just plan on staying in bed when you get home and you should be alright.

Had all 4 of mine taken out under IV sedation. No pain during or after. It's nothing, just as long as you are asleep. :)

Depends on if you are going to an oral surgeon, or a dentist and pliers.

Dude it fucking sucks, but you'll live.

Mutt 09-01-2008 09:04 PM

good luck konrad - last time u went to the dentist in PL it cost 4 bucks - how much for 4 wisdom's extracted?

Martin 09-01-2008 09:09 PM

Your face is swallown/brusied for a week or so after. This was taken a few days after I had 4 taken out.

Also since you'll be awake like I was you'll hear all the crunching noises and smell the bone burning as they drill..

Good times ahead for you. Like I said though, you'll live. :winkwink:

I'll let you know heh.

I'm not going to a dentist though, its a surgeon that has to do it but they still are not allowed to put you out.

Jens Van Assterdam 09-02-2008 01:19 AM

They give you some nice pain killers! Bring those to AMS :)

well i will not say that it's like a walk in the park, it's painful but it also depends by 1) how quick your surgeon is (and how good he is) and 2) how bad your roots are, if you have twisted roots, it'll be worse, but in the end you will survive...

make sure to buy lots of food like soups, yogurts and stuff like that since for a few days you won't be able to chew that much (again see points 1 and 2 tho)....

i had all 4 fuckers out... and 1 at a time......in the end you do it only if it's necessary... so do it like nike.. just do it ;-)

Tat2Jr 09-02-2008 04:48 AM

I'm predicting a nice percodan prescription for you. Tell them vicodan doesn't work on you.

k0nr4d 09-02-2008 04:53 AM

I just got the xray done, it doesn't look like they are going to have to cut bone at all so it wont be too bad apparently, and shouldn't take more then a few minutes.

I'll milk him for some perscription painkillers though.

Sarah_Jayne 09-02-2008 05:06 AM

For me it was more about the pressure feeling when they were being pulled then pain because I was numbed up.

k0nr4d 09-02-2008 12:05 PM

Well,
All done. The surgeon said the teeth are fine and don't need to come out and the one that was giving me problems he cut the flap of gum that was above the tooth away so that it wouldn't get infected. It still fucking sucks and im in quite a bit of pain but better then getting teeth pulled.
