Man alexa really does mean shit
 

I hear people say that alexa really sucks at giving an accurate est of traffic. My new site has been doing more and more traffic each day this week according to google analytics and my alexa graph is showing a down turn. :error

so you discount Alexa because they couldn't keep up with a week's worth of your traffic?

not really. but ill keep watching it and see. I just thought it was funny.

I've noticed that it will sometimes show the latest date it has as one thing...and then a day later that number will rise up somehow. For instance today (sept 1) it shows the latest data it has as Aug. 30 But if you wait until tomorrow when it shows the 31st...the numbers for the 30th will change. I guess that it somehow is still making it's calculations for the last day showing or something?

maybe you're getting more and more fake hitbot traffic, and less real traffic...

maybe Alexa can tell the real from the non-real

It might also be compensating for Time Zones?

This might be a wild guess, but maybe data is compiled relative to the surfer. So if we're in Timezone A and its the 31, but your surfer is from Timezone B which is still a day behind, maybe thats what makes the data fluctuate?
