JFK's thread got me thinking

After reading this it got me wondering. Is there a place where you can sell your body parts, skin, etc and they will pay you now, and they collect later?

Kind of like selling your soul to the devil, but more tangible.

aico 09-02-2008 08:52 PM

Let me know if you find one, I'd do it.

No kidding. They let you be an organ donor, how about letting true Capitalism ring through for once. Screw this Commie stuff.

Marcus Aurelius 09-02-2008 08:55 PM

hehe. I just wonder if they would depreciate the purchase based on the lifestyle you live after the transaction. Bet some here would end up owing them before the end.

Assuming there is one.

:2 cents:

aico 09-02-2008 08:57 PM

you should start a website where people can bid on the body parts, and you take a commission.

Now we're thinking outside the box.

mynameisjim 09-02-2008 09:01 PM

In the U.S is it's illegal to sell body parts, even after you die you can't sell organs. It's also illegal for doctors to transplant paid for organs.

Other countries may differ, I'm sure. There were reports of Chinese criminals being harvested to give organs to high officials.

Technically The Uniform Anatomical Gift Act makes certain types of payment for body parts illegal. Section 16 prohibits someone from buying or selling body parts for transplantation or therapy. However it does allow people to charge a fee for the "removal, processing, preservation, quality control, storage, transportation, implantation, or disposal of a part."

So like always there are loopholes that one can capitalize on.

I just said it was illegal. I didn't think that would stop anyone on GFY. :winkwink:

But what if you screw up your organs? Say I sign away my liver then drink like crazy. Do I have to give the money back?

Well, I suppose if I bought your liver, then found you abusing it, I could sue you for breach of contract. That is where the legality issue comes in. You can't enforce an illegal contract.

Like I said, buzz killer.

GigoloShawn 09-02-2008 10:32 PM

Odds are that would be the risk the company would take. I would really see them going after full bodies though instead of organs. Organs are a bit touchy and hard to preserve yet bone matter and other parts are much less fragile. As long as they are disease free they would be in the clear. The loopholes would still allow the removal of organs and crap though.

I actually thought I caught a segment or two on body part stores while watching 20/20 or 60 minutes. Hell could of been any of those news shows. Also recall a few mortuaries doing resell illegally to a few of them.

tony286 09-02-2008 10:38 PM

Say if they decided to collect early?

wonder how useful are those body parts ? would you be able to live with yourself knowing that a part of your body came from a dead person?? Touchy subject:2 cents:

You can sell/donate your body to science. They will tattoo your foot stating that your body is the property of such and such medical center and your corpse is to be returned to them. It was $10K in the early 1990's as I recall... not sure if they still do it.

The larger issue is a topic that is usually discussed by freedom loving people. If you, as a human, were truly free then you would own your body.

So do you own your body? Most would say, "Hell yeah I own my body". If you own something, such as land, you can buy, sell, and trade it. It is illegal to sell your body parts. It is illegal to put unapproved chemicals into your body. It is illegal to end your life. In some states tattoo parlors are outlawed. More and more states are dictating how food is cooked.

To truly deem oneself 'FREE' you should be able to do whatever you want with your body. No country, on this planet, allows such things. As time progresses and various parts of the world become more "progressive"... the ownership of your body becomes less and less yours and more and more the states.

That is a great exhibit to visit. I saw it first in Berlin in 2001 when it was still illegal(or just not allowed for some reason) in the US. I've since seen it several times. I HIGHLY recommend it.

There's a place in Florida like that that pays, I forget what dollar amount, but your dead body goes to them upon death,, you get a tattoo put on you too.. and it's for some science, experiments kind of deal.. something I read a couple years back so can't recall the details

Jesus people are tight for dough nowadays.

There's no money in porn... but there's plenty of spleen.

Personally I would have no issue with it. Then again I have been around medical crap and choices the majority of my life. I can accept pretty much after having to undergo a skin graft early on and that resulted in me getting a transplant of pig skin to my thigh. So I think if I can accept getting something from another species all together I am pretty sure a dead human would not even phase me.

I actually have not even given much thought to the people that some assorted blood transfusions I have received. OK yes they are still living or more than likely were when I got the blood but it is around the same lines.

I hear the body part market is fairly huge and from what I remember from that news show who visited a few mortuary conventions (ya even they do bro shows, lol). There were a lot of companies giving out such literature and pushing the body part business to the attendees. A lot of the parts seem to be in high demand and can be held for some time as I understand. The story you originally posted named a few pieces that they were selling. Of course they were being sneaky and stealing them and not testing them either. You will notice that they did not bust the buying companies.

bbm 09-03-2008 03:52 AM

JFK is classic!

Suede2 09-03-2008 05:54 AM

I think you should do it more supply on demand.. If someone needs a heart you go out and get one.. Like an enforced blood donor scheme....

It's your own fault if you signed up, I need a heart.....
