I have friends who won't buy porn anymore online...

... and no, it's not because of all the free shit everywhere, it's because they all have problems with the companies trying to charge all kinds of bullshit on their credit cards, and I'm not only talking about cross-sales.

I'm not gonna name any names, but the programs that are fucking over customers need to stop that shit or people are just going to lose even more faith in using their credit cards online.

A lot of the same big wigs here doing this, so-called "stand up guys" really don't give a fuck. It seems obvious that they intend on exiting the industry.

halfpint 09-03-2008 06:15 PM

I dont blame them I would be pissed and wouldent trust another adult site if that happened to me

Drake 09-03-2008 06:21 PM

Is that legal? Can you give an example of what else is being charged? Say I join a website. What type of other charges would I see?

DirtyProfits 09-03-2008 06:21 PM

I think none of my friends did ever buy a membership and they probably will never lol

Sosa 09-03-2008 06:23 PM

name the sites

You do realise that Fetish hits (your sig) is one of the offenders. Look the prechecked xsales, even on revshare!

True dat pimp hand.

RP Fade 09-03-2008 06:28 PM

Yup..same here..a friend of mine told me the same thing. He signed up for a trial and apparently got 'upgraded' without even knowing it and got raped for over $50.

No I did not, I am not an afflaite for Fetish Hits. Toni paid me to fly the sig.

I think Stickygreen is on about other charges and not prechecked xsales.

What's the point of this thread if you don't give names? Without names, this thread is just a pointless discussion... unless you point them out, they will continue doing whatever they are doing... if you name them, there is at least some chance they will stop the shady practices...

It's just the "old school" guys fucking the industry.. But it's THEIR industry so.. I guess it's their right?

klaze 09-03-2008 08:15 PM

My friends are 18 - 30 and NONE of them buy porn.. and when i say none.. I am not exagerating..

And it's scary.. cause i'd think they'd be the target market for a lot of porn..

and it's not because of prechecks it's because of free porn and the belief that porn is lame and they can just get laid..

Domain Diva 09-03-2008 08:16 PM

I agree with everyones post but also mainstream is not so better .

I just got my c/c statement from the Miami show and everything is in order,hotel/food/service charges and all other charges are fine.

Then I look closer ,Walmart billed me 2 times for 100 bottles of water I purchased and a shopping mall ATM billed me twice for a $250 cash withdraw, mistakes I guess but if it was adult related it would be called a scam !

Just my 2 cents !

mynameisjim 09-03-2008 08:34 PM

I would say most older surfers are afraid of CC fraud/charges.

Younger surfers because of the free porn.

Quite a few people I have talked to are scared to sign up because they think they will get a ton of porn magazines and catalogs in the mail like the old days. That was decades ago so I'm sure these cross sales will have the same long lasting effect on people.

The funniest part is that with the hidden cross sales, the programs are making $100 plus per sign up and the affiliates think they are kicking ass getting 30% of that in PPS and fucking their traffic and the industry in the process.

There are a ton of posts about shady sponsors getting called out on gfy, Did any of them work? Nope!! All that happens is all the ass kissers and bros come out of the woodwork saying what a great company they are, even when proof has been posted, it's a lost cause :(

Tat2Jr 09-03-2008 09:44 PM

We all know the names of the companies, but as long as the parties have girls and an open bar, and their monthly board banner fees are paid then it's all fine and dandy. :disgust

SO, YOU ARE DEFENDING THESE ACTIONS?

MetaMan 09-03-2008 10:47 PM

dam i am making more cash then ever, i am kind of glad some of you slimeballs are losing money, i hope most of you end up broke working in IT competing with indian companies for food.

when i see even some big wigs on here complaining i secretly laugh to myself. most of you are complete pieces of shit who would do anything for dime and just whine when your scam isnt working.

but at the end of the day most of you are pieces of shit who will soon be broke. so i will be happy.

God this thread is like a set up for my new company! I don't know how any of those companies survive??? We all have to deal with the CB/Refund% but I know companies who have people hired to just get new merchant accounts endlessly. That's why I created Billassure.com a 3rd Party Billing verification company. Just sign up for our service and we'll review your site's billing practices and create a site seal and page on our server to link to and give your customers a $1000 guarantee that they won't be billed incorrectly. We've got it on a # of sites and their revenues are up 15%+ Just shoot me an email. I'm happy to give anyone a free trial. I created this after hearing endless people with the same complaints.

That's clever.

Toni 09-03-2008 11:29 PM

We do use cross sales like 99% of the sites out there do but nothing else.
I am not sure what you mean with that: "...companies trying to charge all kinds of bullshit on their credit cards, and I'm not only talking about cross-sales...."
Such stuff we don't have whatever you mean with it, we have no hidden text or hidden charges.
On our join page the surfer has the option to join additional sites at a discounted price, same as when you go to Expedia and book a trip, they offer you additional options.

That's a nice service... :thumbsup

PSSuperstars 09-03-2008 11:39 PM

If a small phone sex company were to ever DREAM of doing cross checked sales.. our merchant account would drop us like a bad habit.

I'd love to do it with the online billing options... but, what's sad... is our industry of just voice... is regulated like theyr'e a bunch of nazis..

But the big guys get away with shit.

cgu 09-04-2008 12:41 AM

Thanks! Again, I'm happy to set anyone up for free and if after a month you don't think its worth it just delete. I'm certain you'll see the results in about 4 to 6 hours of putting the logo on your CC page. Here's an example of the page your site seal would link to http://webcaminabox.billassure.com/ Its really helped this webcam site because they don't charge a monthly fee, but they require a CC for sign up, but most of their traffic didn't trust that putting in their CC would not result in a charge. We've increased their conversions significantly. We are still in start up mode so our graphics and site will be fined tuned as we get feedback from consumers and partners.

I'm still learning the ropes here on GFY, wasn't sure if that'd be considered spam.

Paul Markham 09-04-2008 01:06 AM

If you found an industry or company that supplied a product you did not really need, the product was not very good, the service was poor and to top it all they tried to over charge you. Would you keep buying the product or from the company?

There are countless examples over the last 8 years of scandals when it came to sponsors ripping off affiliates, even a highly visible link to a place that does not pay the affiliate is considered a terrible thing.

Ripping off the customer has never really been a major problem until the number of pissed off customers made a huge impact on our earnings. Then it became a major problem and everyone was up in arms.

As an industry we put the customer third and now we are paying the price for it.

Cross Sales are not new and just one of the reasons people don't buy porn as much as they use to. But it won't stop until we realise that traffic is not King, the customer is and ripping him off, disappointing him and not selling him what HE needs leads to one end. He stops buying.

One of the main reasons for cross sales is to pay affiliates more than the sign up to one site pays. So think about it not as an individual but as an industry problem.

We need to think long term if we want to be long term.

cgu 09-04-2008 01:13 AM

Advertise instead of paying affiliates to advertise for you. (not knocking affiliates of coarse)
