Motorcyclist dies at 239 mph !

At that rate of speed I wonder what the actual tire footprint looks like ...

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AFP) ? A motorcyclist was killed after losing control of his bike at 385 kilometers (239 miles) per hour and crashing on Utah's famous Bonneville Salt Flats, authorities and reports said Thursday.

The Salt Lake Tribune cited police investigators as saying Gullett was travelling at 239 miles per hour before the crash.

I've tapped into the 140's for very brief milliseconds on a bike.

i couldn't dream of 240

ps: that was a great movie with Anthony Hopkins, i think "The Fastest Indian". It took place at Bonneville.

SBJ 09-04-2008 10:22 PM

Retards... He was doing it on a closed course, not out on public streets. I guess according to you two, anyone that races anything must be an idiot with a death wish.

Do you know of any stock 500cc bikes that go 239mph?

You making a funny?

Getting away from the bike = good. Not wearing proper gear = bad.

I am actually glad to see it took place somewhere that was proper. No bad feelings and for all we know the rider went out with a smile plastered to his face. If your in an area that is made for such speeds and there is no chance of hurting someone else driving then go for it all you want. Your life, live it or end it how you please. Your not harming others doing it.

Damn that's fast :eyecrazy I've been on a Yamaha R1 once with 301 kmh (at least that was on the speedo, guess it was more like 280 or something) - it felt like my arms getting ripped out of my torso ^^

384 kmh real speed is just insanity - butt hell of a ride :thumbsup

mrwilson 09-05-2008 01:45 AM

damn that sucks :(
I feel sorry for his family and friends and people who had to witness the crash because at that speed it wouldn't of been very nice.

bobby666 09-05-2008 02:03 AM

maybe that was just a little bit too fast

tranza 09-05-2008 06:11 AM

Wow, a crash at that speed must be terrible!

Scott McD 09-05-2008 06:24 AM

Awesome movie, and I hit 166 on my bike back in the day. Now I look back and wonder what the fuck I was doing.

sicone 09-05-2008 07:35 AM

2012 09-05-2008 07:39 AM

I guess it beats dying in your sleep:thumbsup

jakethedog 09-05-2008 07:44 AM

in the 90's I had a 85 GSXR 1100 bored out to 1301 cosworth pistons ..stage 2 cams ,flow ported heads , 20mm larger than stock carbs ..yada yada .. greek to most of you but bottom line a 200bhp sport bike that I would run up to 313 klm or 194-5 mph any time i had enough road .. ended up 10 years ago getting run off a bridge by a lane changing maniac who pushed me into the guardrail at 120 .. meh .. time to start thinking about building up another monster ..

Cyndalie 09-05-2008 07:47 AM

That must have been a mess to clean up :(

Ahh...so it was a closed course (forehead slap).

Well then - I must modify my earlier observation.

He was definitely Mensa material. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

My only question now is - did they use a spatula, squeegee or shovel to pick up his Einstein carcass?

You're an idiot.

On the flip side, my buddy just called as he was pulling out of the flats, and apparently him and his partner set the world record in their class.

mvee 09-05-2008 09:47 AM

It's genetic for these guys. Most of us can understand his motivation to travel at insane speeds on a motorcycle as well as he can understand our motivation to stare at a monitor looking at porn all day.

jmk 09-05-2008 09:49 AM

Dayum !

Would have looked like soup... I can't even imagine seeing that happen to someone close to me.

Not exactly. They actually thought he was just going to lose an arm, but he died later.

bullshit... :2 cents:

the fastest stock bike had been the Suzuki Hayabusa with more than 300 km/h (187 mph) - and thats a 1300cc. after that came out all manufacturers agreed to volounteerily limit their bikes to 299 km/h to prevent further competitions who can build a faster bike. so there are no STOCK bikes anymore that do more than 187 mph - especially no 500cc. modifications don't count as stock

I think you are confusing km/h with MPH.
