My BURNING MAN Masterpiece: "Bats In The Wind" (vid + pics)

First, and most importantly, the video:

When I got back from Burning Man, tons of people said, ?I heard you guys had a doozy of a dust storm.? As if Burning Man was ruined. HUH!? After 11 burns, I LOVE dust storms. They are esssential for people to reach the level of surrender necessary for people to evolve. You cannot transform while you hold on to your old patterns.

Saying that ?Dust Disturbs Burning Man? (as the NY Times Headline said) is like saying ?Frosting Disturbs Cupcakes.?

Haha! Cool video. That certainly captures some of the elements of BMAN that few people talk about.

The best advice anyone ever gave me about BMAN was said to me six years ago when I stepped out of my car onto the playa for the first time. We arrived to the queue early in the morning before sunrise. After hours of being on the road, I stepped out of the car and looked down at the think dusty playa. The winds were calm at the time. The ground felt like I was standing on a few inches of talc. I remember thinking... this feels like what I imagine the surface of the moon must be like.

My friend (with several burns under his belt) just smiled and said... "Learn to love the dust".

He certainly wasn't kidding. I've passed that advice on to every virgin we've taken.

Ashley & I created this pink chill space in front of our camp. It became my favorite hangout:

Right. On.

It was my first trip to Black Rock City. The storm on Monday stopped us from getting our camp set up fully (tents and domes are tricky fuckers to handle in a blow like that), but it didn't dampen our spirits a bit.

We grabbed our goggles and bandanas and trekked out to place called The Duckpond and danced in a whiteout. I remember thinking that back home in any storm like that people would run for cover. In Black Rock City we ran to find new friends to party with.

If you can enjoy an experience like a sand storm and still have fun and party..

You can definitely find the good or love in this world.

Fucksakes 09-10-2008 01:23 PM
