Is 128Kbps upload speed fast enough to do cam shows?

I'm trying to set up a webcam for my wife to do shows in her own members area as well as doing shows on other webcam sites. Where I live the fastest upload speed I can have is 128Kbps. Is that fast enough?

Thanks for any advice :)

Damn this is moving down the page quick!

220 or greater is probably ideal, if you lower the fps you might be ok.

You need to post pics of your wife to get an answer... :)

should be enough, only one way to try is setup a stream on ustream or something to test it out

It really depends on the software you are using. Are they straight streaming? Are they using Windows Media Encoder or Flash? Are you trying to do multipe sites at once?

128 up is not that fast, but if you are using some sort of Flash based variety web software, wlthough there may be some lag, as long as your PC can handle the cache it should be fine.

If you want it to be as close as possible (especially if she is using sound with a mic or something), you may want to look into some upgrades from your provider.

I wish you luck. I have had to deal with shit like this in the past so if you have any questions - just ask :)

Thanks for the help Denis. I'm using a Canon XM1 as a webcam and trying to use SplitCam so I can send to multiple camsites. But I think I need to compress the feed from the camera first down to 320x240 and 15fps. Should I use Windows Media Encoder or something else or am I setting it up all wrong anyway :)

As far as upgrades from my provider, 128kbps upload is the fastest I can get where I live. I could get another subscription on another phone line I have so I will have two 128kbps lines but I'm presuming it couldn't be used together.

Stay away from the windows media encoder. Not only is it a system hog, but you will need a pretty decent up connection to get results worth a shit.

Flash will be the best way to go due to the compression size vs. quality output.

With what you are dealing with, I would say most likely your best bet would be to do her Members Area at one time, and then do the independent sites at another - not at the same time.

Most cam sites need a direct connection to your PC anyways, which will only run into IRQ conflicts and what not as they attempt to connect to your stream port while already occupied by another site's proprietary software.

It's not that it is IMPOSSIBLE, it's just a pain in the ass to reassign shit in order to do so. On top of that, her having her members area shows only available to her members will make it that more desirable :)

2 lines + 2 cams + 2 computers

1 for the members area and the other for other places is about the best shot you'll have ;) I'm getting 2Mb uploads with comcast where I'm at, thank god they increased upload speeds. Even the $20/mnth plan is 1Mb uploads...

We will be doing the members area shows separately. What software do you suggest for the independent sites? SplitCam works fine but do I need to use flash to compress the feed before it gets to SplitCam? And if so, what program do you suggest?

Feel free to post an email address or ICQ and I will get with you and share some of my success stories as well as my failures. :)

I'm leaving the office and have to go munch on some boneless buffalo wings at Applebees on the way home, but will be sure to get back with you as soon as I do. :)

I had liveshows in the past, we had for each camera 512 Kpbs upload speed to the main server.
