So there I am trying to be nice ...
 

Yesterday evening I was in a parking lot of a local strip (well sort of, more like a bhig square) mall with a large grocery store, video store, fast food places, etc etc.

So I'm driving along one of the main arteries that leads to the exit, when I notice Mr. Magoo's great grandfather driving an old fucking Dodge. This guy was 100 if he was a day, and thick, thick glasses. He rolls over his stop line, I see him coming and stop, just as he slams on his brakes.

So I'm looking over at this old guy and wave him to turn left in front of me. I figured he's already halfway out in front of me anyway, and no traffic oncoming to me will be able to get through.

He looks my direction. I wait a few minutes and wave him through again. Nothing. Not sure if he can see me or not, but figure he can't see me waving. I shrug and start to move just as he decides I must be waiting for him and starts to pull out again.

Since we're doing like 1KM, I just stop and again wave him on. He looks my direction, slams on the brakes, then slams it in to reverse. At this point I start frantically waving both hands, and SCREAMING through the open window and sunroof at him "STOP STOP STOP STOP!!!".

He backs right in to the middle aged single mom looking lady right behind him. Sigh. I went to get a fucking protein shake, I don't want to spend a fucking hour in a parking lot. Anyway, I stop, get out and walk over. The old man is still sitting in his car looking at traffic as if he's going to pull in. I knock on his window, it startles him but he opens it.

Me "Sir, you've been in an accident. You can't leave."
Him "WHAT??"
Me "An accident, sir. You hit the lady behind you."
Him "WHAT? WHO?"
Me "The lady behind you, that lady right over there. You hit her."
Him "She HIT ME?? WHEN?"
Me "No, you hit her."
Him "WHO?"

I just gave the fuck up. Gave the lady my name and phone number, told her I'd absolutely be a witness for insurance and not to worry I saw him back in to her clearly. Holy fuck though, someone like that shouldn't be driving at all. She had already called the police so hopefully they'll make sure he's done driving. What a disaster.

I would have called the cops and took the old fuckers keys out of the ignition. Perform a citizen's arrest. :2 cents:

People over 65 should have to take some kind of test to make sure they are still capable of driving.

its really bad like that in florida. fucking old people almost ran me over daily.

seriously, old people cause a lot of problems. where i live now there is a dangerous mix of really really old people and really young people within about 5 miles of each other. the one intersection by my house there is always accidents... old people not seeing the stop sign or pulling out at red lights.

the funniest tho is the other day i was in the store and this old lady who was probably going on 80 drove car INTO the metal sign for handicap parking. put it in reverse and then drove into it again. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

IN lots of states when something like that happens, the computer system will automatically set them to a yearly test. they get a letter in the mail and have to go in and retest.

But we all know how well that works.

when people hit a certain age they should get re-evaluated for their drivers. Shit in your pants? drivers license revoked.

I grew up on the island in Qualicum Beach, it has the OLDEST age per capita in all of Canada (it's something the city is proud of and a verified census statistic)

The things I have seen....

The speed limit is 50kmph and most drive 35 on a good day. It's just.... fuck I hate that place for driving.

they should have to redo the test every 6 months or a year...I think theres something like that but I think it's longer.

The sad thing about this old man is he probably doesn't have a loved one around him that will help him adapt to his situation, or even make him adapt. Hopefully this incident will get him off the streets. He is lucky this happened with a person like you, whether he understands it or not. You follow through with what you say, so you will make sure the police, or whoever you speak with, are fully aware of the situation before someone gets killed. So thanks to you he can get the help he needs and an innocent person's life just might be saved too!
