:Oh crap:Oh crap

crockett 09-15-2008 01:26 PM

crazy picture but judging by the damage to the foundation and the likely water damage..I'd say they would have been luckier to have had it washed away. Looking at that picture though, it's amazing people were allowed to build there. I look at ariel views of parts of Florida and wonder the same thing.. It's just a disaster waiting to happen.

Pete-KT 09-15-2008 01:26 PM

well i dont know if hes lucky or pissed off, now he has a semi-fucked up house :)

Jarmusch 09-15-2008 01:27 PM

Not like he's gonna be able to live in it...

StariaDaniel 09-15-2008 01:27 PM

Is this a photoshop or is this house made of steel? i mean it doesn't even look like it's made of stone or can one person be so lucky?

Chris 09-15-2008 01:31 PM

This is why you shouldn't build houses made of wood.

Did the little piggies not learn from the big bad wolf?

Jman 09-15-2008 01:47 PM

Tanker 09-15-2008 02:08 PM

That house is on stilts but I don't think it kept it out of the surge water levels

Elli 09-15-2008 03:18 PM

So people are allowed to build right up to the water's edge without a dyke system or anything in place? That's... odd.

Since when is that odd? BEACH HOUSES are called beach houses for a reason.

Usually they're set off the beach a ways, or up an elevation at least.

LOL...Luckily my neighborhood is nowhere near as bad as that, we did lose a few houses to falling trees, but overall we faired well compared to most.

and the awesome part... that is KATRINA damage, the picture was taken right before Hurricane Gustav hit. It still looks like hell over there, since 2005.

"Now Leasing" :1orglaugh

Slick 09-16-2008 10:47 AM

That must be crazy for all of those that lost their houses, you figure that's EVERYTHING gone that they've had and there's nothing to even dig through. At least this guy still has everything he owns sitting there. I wonder what the condition is of the stuff in his house, I wouldn't think it'd be that bad, unless there's some broken windows that let the water flood in. He'll just need to find a ladder to get up into the house now, ha ha ha.

I am sure after he/she deals with his insurance company, they won't feel so lucky and probably have wished it didn't stand.

Thats EXACTLY what I was thinking. Yea his house maybe be screwed, but at least he still has all of his possessions.

JesseD 09-16-2008 01:03 PM

I'm going to call that guy's HOA and complain that the grass needs to be watered - it looks real dry in front there.

Phil21 09-16-2008 02:14 PM

Pretty sure most beach houses like that in the area are not actual "homes". They usually seem to be rental units/timeshares and the like - as in no one really lives in them full time.

At least when we had a beach house for a couple weeks near Galveston that was the impression I got.

Still sucks though

WebairGerard 09-16-2008 04:06 PM

such a devastating storm. amazing.
