Ohio is SHUT DOWN

Ok
So yesterday we had over 60 MPH winds here
Took out a shitload of trees
Over 700k People here without electric

Could be up to 4 days without power , internet
we are barely running on a generator
but it looks like the shortage of gas is getting worse here
there are basically 6 gas stations open anywhere in this area

All the stores are closed and their cold and or frozen food is either gone or gone bad

If anyone needs anything from us please be patient as it may take a while to get back to you I have an AIR card from AT&T but it comes and goes as the cell towers are running out of diesel that keeps them going without power so i guess they are keeping things to a minimum right now..

anyways have a good day everyone

Tom

As a result of Sunday’s wind storms, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland declared a state of emergency Monday during a 1:30 p.m. press conference in Columbus.

He said this will allow greater flexibility in the use of state resources.

Strickland said 84 of Ohio’s 88 counties have reported damage or power outages from the remains of Hurricane Ike, which swept through Sunday afternoon.

Strickland said as of 11:14 a.m., more than 1.9 million customers were without power in Ohio.

He also said about one-third of all Ohio Department of Transportation traffic signals are not functioning and 46 roads across the state have been closed.

“Restoration and clean-up will take a substantial amount of time,” Strickland said. “We hope that Ohioans will be patient.”

I guess living in Latin America got me used to things blowing around. Hell, I was in at least 40mph winds splicing a phone line with cat5 this time last year.

Tat2Jr 09-15-2008 02:41 PM

Damn Tom - Hope you're all safe and sound, and get your power back sooner rather then later.

It's like the news forgot about the storm after it hit Texas.

Penny24Seven 09-15-2008 02:44 PM

I didn't know you were there Tom, my family and girl friend and main girl are all living in south west Ohio right now. Moraine, Miamisburg and Dayton are the three I can remember

Yeah, I had no clue it fucked up Ohio... and I'm a news junkie. All this shit reminds me I need to get a generator and a tent for when we have the big earthquake. I've got the water, and food stored up, but nothing past the basics.

Tom, Best of luck to you. I've been in the same situation. Gas is one of the first things I worry about when a storm is heading my way. Had the worst experience with previous Hurricanes.

Jayvis 09-15-2008 02:56 PM

Ohio did get fucking rocked by wind yesterday, lost power for about 24 hours... most boring and non-productive day of my life... although I did win a game of candle light Monopoly with some buddies ;)

I didn't know we had this many Ohio people on GFY, though!

Big_D 09-15-2008 02:58 PM

Iam near Cincinnati right now and parts of it look like a Hurricane came through here. Trees and powerlines down everywhere. And several business shut down. I was told that they called in help from a few southern states to came work on the power problem. There expecting around 400 utility workers to come assist.

stickyfingerz 09-15-2008 03:06 PM

bluemoney 09-15-2008 03:06 PM

I'm in the Clifton area and a friend of mine is in the national guard and he just got a call saying he's most likely going to have to help out with all of the cleaning and whatnot. Another friend had his whole back windshield completely shattered last night and I've heard of a few deaths... I've never seen anything like it.

Can't even imagine what going through a real hurricane must be like. :Oh crap

Pornopat 09-15-2008 03:10 PM

Safety first....
Good to read you are ok so far.

Bobbysangel 09-15-2008 03:14 PM

Fatdog 09-16-2008 08:45 AM

I thought this post was about USC victory over Ohio. :)

pornguy 09-16-2008 09:17 AM

If you live in an area that has been hit by the storm, grab a pick up truck, and go out and grab all the aluminum that you can find on the streets. stack it in your back yard and wait a few weeks. Then Sell it. I know a guy that did this in Miami after Andrew. Made about 30k for a few weekends of work.

tranza 09-16-2008 09:19 AM

Hope nobody gets hurt!
