We will never leave Iraq

Anyone who thinks America will ever leave iraq really has no clue what is going on there.

I have a 20-something year old cousin there on his third tour, and he is taking college classes in Iraq. He says, no one is ever going to leave there, we are educating thousands of soldier/students there, and there is no real plan to ever "leave."

The way he describes it, aside from the firefights and bombs etc, sounds much like college. Soldiers drinking and partying, lots of beer he said...

somehow I think people who "want us out of iraq" dont really understand what is happening.

We are not going to leave, we are setting up colleges there, and thousands of other types of institutions that we will never part with. If we had any intentions of "leaving" we would not be sending soldiers to college courses within the heart of the conflict.

Okinawa anyone?

Fletch XXX 09-16-2008 05:53 AM

"The US military presence in Japan and on Okinawa began at the end of World War II. Although the US occupation in Japan ended in 1952, US administration continued on Okinawa until 1972. In 1951, when the San Francisco Peace Treaty was officially recognized, Okinawa legally became a possession of the United States."

LOL

we will own iraq too.

I agree, there is no plan to leave Iraq. US troops have not even left Western Europe (the US army even has a nuclear arsenal on the continent), and Washington is opening new military bases in Eastern Europe.

The US is playing the extortion card, US leaders believe the world will be forced to hold their debt forever because the US is the world protector, any country refusing to pay will be crushed. It's organized crime on a massive scale.

the us is playing a game of risk

lets just hope that the asia contingent doesnt sweep in from alaska and wipe out north america

this shouldn't be a surprise to anybody - from Day One i knew that the US would have a large presence in Iraq for the next 100 years. It's not an occupation - it's an attempt to bring that shithole and its poor people into the 21st century so they don't spend the next 100 years killing each other and providing a breeding ground for terrorists. You don't see many Japanese bitching these days. Getting their asses finally kicked in WWII was the best thing that ever happened to them. And for those who want to say that this is all about US corporations and politicians getting rich - look at the Japanese auto and electronics industries, the US created an economic powerhouse at the expense of their own corporations and workers. Iraqis won't be forced or asked to salute the American flag nor change their religion or customs.

The best thing that can happen to a country in the long run is to lose a war to the United States. Think Russians today aren't more than happy that they lost the Cold War?

For all its warts the Unites States of America is still the greatest country on the planet.

I must be confused. Wasn't the war about trying to find WMD's?

seeandsee 09-16-2008 06:49 AM

Iraq is USA new country :)

L-Pink 09-16-2008 06:50 AM

We aren't going to leave the oil pipelines in Afghanistan unprotected either.

IllTestYourGirls 09-16-2008 06:54 AM

WHAT??? Obama says he is going to bring our troops home at the same time Bush said he has planned withdrawal. You know change, stay the course whats the difference?
:1orglaugh Obama supports have been fooled into thinking he is going to "end the war". When in reality his foreign policy is the same as Bushs.

Ron Paul would have brought our troops home and save this country. To bad no one listened and believed Obama would bring them home. He wont.

It had nothing to do with American's wanting to advance the notions of liberty, they could of done that in a dozen other countries/regions that would of been much less hostile to them, and with the money spent in Iraq much more successful. It had to do with Israel's security, and Zionist/neo-con policy to dominate that region. I will try to break down the link for you. Concentrate on the year it was written, WHO it was written by (that's a big one - Richard Perle, Feith, etc), and who it was written for. And than realise which little Wurms (excuse the pun) pushed for and made this war and why.

"If it's a lie, then we fight on that lie"

So we are supposed to believe that a government that openly lied to the country to start a war is actually there to do some good? Sure, you believe that bullshit if you want.

Yes that would make as much sense as webmasters going to war against the surfers. :1orglaugh

RandomNinja 09-16-2008 08:37 AM

I called it as soon as the whole thing started. Iraq will become the 51st state, as horrible as that sounds.

Shok 09-16-2008 08:38 AM

I think America East has a nice ring to it.

We will be visiting our casinos there in about 10 years

Rochard 09-16-2008 09:24 AM

No, we'll never leave Iraq. We are still in Germany, Japan, and Korea. Why leave?

Malicious Biz 09-16-2008 12:40 PM

We still have military bases in Germany, Japan, and Korea for christ's sake. Yeah. we are leaving Iraq soon. Go Obama! haha..

Drake 09-16-2008 12:43 PM

Quite true, but the idea is to destabilize the entire region, not bring it up to 1st world democratic status like America. It's a gamble and nobody knows how it's going to play out in the end. Russia probably enjoys the possibility of us bankrupting ourselves in the Middle East.

I do not think that Iraq is in any way comparable to the Westernization of Japan. The Middle East is starkly different in religious and cultural norms, multi-ethnic composition, and history.

Drake 09-16-2008 01:13 PM

My guess is that America will maintain a presence where certain areas are basically all American/Western with most Iraqis essentially displaced from those areas. The Iraqis will probably be diced up and spread out into their own ethnic enclaves/territories in an effort to maintain control and keep the peace, or at least to keep conflict away form the American occupied areas.

But this is just a guess. Never know how things are going to unfold. Maybe those entrenched cultural norms really can be transformed along with the entire region becoming an American East and those peoples able to live in relative harmony. Even so, I think it's going to take awhile, compared to say, the very pro-Westernize attitude of the Japanese who recognized the benefits of Western culture early on and created measures to modernize rapidly.
