why would they ban this song from MTV? You know why?

Brother will kill brother
Spilling blood across the land
Killing for religion
Something I don't understand

Fools like me, who cross the sea
And come to foreign lands
Ask the sheep, for their beliefs
Do you kill on God's command?

A country that's divided
Surely will not stand
My past erased, no more disgrace
No foolish naive stand

The end is near, it's crystal clear
Part of the master plan
Don't look now to Israel
It might be your homeland

Holy wars

[Solo - Friedman]

Upon my podium, as the
Know it all scholar
Down in my seat of judgement
Gavel's bang, uphold the law
Up on my soapbox, a leader
Out to change the world
Down in my pulpit as the holier
Than-thou-could-be-messenger of God

Wage the war on organized crime
Sneak attacks, repel down the rocks
Behind the lines
Some people risk to employ me
Some people live to destroy me
Either way they die. they die

[Solo - Friedman]

They killed my wife and my baby,
With hopes to enslave me
First mistake... last mistake
Paid by the alliance, to slay all the giants
Next mistake... no more mistakes!

[Solo - Mustaine]

Fill the cracks in, with judicial granite
Because I don't say it, don't mean I ain't
Thinkin' it.
Next thing you know, they'll take my thoughts away
I know what I said, now I must scream of the overdose
And the lack of mercy killings.
mercy killings
mercy killings
killings!!
killings!!
killings!!
next thing you know
they'll take my thoughts away!

read the lyrics.

just one of the many songs banned from MTV, but were at one time played every single day.

Fletch XXX 09-17-2008 11:37 AM

best lyrics ever banned in my opinion

"Because I don't say it, don't mean I ain't
Thinkin' it.
Next thing you know, they'll take my thoughts away

next thing you know
they'll take my thoughts away!"

Brad 09-17-2008 11:39 AM

Because (and correct me if I am wrong here), that is a Megadeath song and they are no longer relevant.

your opinion is irrelevant.

go listen to saint anger kid

Lycanthrope 09-17-2008 11:40 AM

Don't know, one of the best Megadeth songs there is imo.

Actual music made by actual musicians with a political message must interfere with their guns and hos' focus.

JamesK 09-17-2008 11:41 AM

MTV doesn't show any real music. It's all dumbed down bullshit for kids. Anything related to politics, corruption or anything that matters is banned.

Rust In Peace will always go down as one of the best Metal albums ever recorded.

And I agree with you, although I really like the old stuff too songs like Hook In Mouth are great lyrics too.

A cockroach in the concrete, courthouse tan and beady eyes.
A slouch with fallen arches, purging truths into great lies.
A little man with a big eraser, changing history
Procedures that hes programmed to, all he hears and sees.

Altering the facts and figures, events and every issue.
Make a person disappear, and no one will ever miss you.

Rewrites every story, every poem that ever was.
Eliminates incompetence, and those who break the laws.
Follow the instructions of the new ways evil book of rules.
Replacing rights with wrongs, the files and records in the schools.

You say youve got the answers, well who asked you anyway?
Ever think maybe it was meant to be this way?
Dont try to fool us, we know the worst is yet to come.
I believe my kingdom will come.

Chorus
F is for fighting, r is for red,
Ancestors blood in battles theyve shed.
E, we elect them, e, we eject them,
In the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
D, for your dying, o, your overture,
M, they will cover your grave with manure.
This spells out freedom, it means nothing to me,
As long as theres a p.m.r.c.

F is for fighting, r is for red,
Ancestors blood in battles theyve shed.
E, we elect them, e, we eject them,
In the land of the free and the home of the brave.
D, for your dying, o, your overture,
M is for money and you know what that cures.
This spells out freedom, it means nothing to me,
As long as theres a p.m.r.c.

Put your hand right up my shirt,
Pull the strings that make me work,
Jaws will part, words fall out,
Like a fish with hook in mouth.

Rewrites every story, every poem that ever was.
Eliminates incompetence, and those who break the laws.
Follow the instructions of the new ways evil book of rules.
Replacing rights with wrongs, the files and records in the schools.

Im not a fish
Im a man

lol. First I'm not a kid and second St. Anger...really, you think I listen to that crap?

The fact is that Megadeath is not what the kids are listening to these days. My opinion is relevant in the sense that at least I have the good sense to understand why that song is no longer played on MTV.

not entirely accurate, bands like Rage Against The Machine owe their entire popularity to MTV, and are not banned.

No, you interject with ignorance and claim it as opinion. The song is "banned" from play, not out of rotation. Has nothing to do with "kids" not listening to it, it HAS BEEN BANNED FROM PLAY. Not many videos have...

You clearly do not understand the difference, so please go back to whatever it is you were doing before you decided to prove your ignorance of Metal.

There's your answer.
There

cherrylula 09-17-2008 11:51 AM

What year was it banned?

ADL Colin 09-17-2008 11:53 AM

I love that song. I'm with you on this Fletch.

That I said that Megadeath is not relevant has nothing to do with my knowledge of metal. The fact that I even knew the song illustrates the fact that I do know metal.

What makes you think you know any more about music than I do? Have I ever said anything pertaining to the music industry or music in general that would indicate that I don't know my shit?

Ok so the vid was banned. Big deal. MTV would rather play reruns of the Hills than show a music video these days anyways so honestly I could care less. Back when videos were played there were all kinds that got censored or that they refused to play.

Mustaine has a knack for it.

Even "Peace Sells" was banned in the UK LOL

always good lyrics

What do you mean, I dont believe in god?
I talk to him every day.
What do you mean, I dont support your system?
I go to court when I have to.
What do you mean, I cant get to work on time?
I got nothing better to do
And, what do you mean, I dont pay my bills?
Why do you think Im broke? huh?

Chorus
If theres a new way,
Ill be the first in line.
But, it better work this time.

What do you mean, I hurt your feelings?
I didnt know you had any feelings.
What do you mean, I aint kind?
Im just not your kind.
What do you mean, I couldnt be president, of the united states of america?
Tell me something, its still we the people, right?

Chorus (repeat)

If theres a new way Ill be the first in line, but, it better work this time. can you put a price on peace?
Peace,
Peace sells...,
Peace,
Peace sells...,
Peace sells...,but whos buying?
Peace sells...,but whos buying?
Peace sells...,but whos buying?
Peace sells...,but whos buying?
No, peace sells...

CaptainHowdy 09-17-2008 11:55 AM

I don't really care what MTV bans or not...

Exactly. Chances are if it's not played on MTV it's probably worth listening to.

Fletch XXX 09-17-2008 12:00 PM

interesting sidenote... the intro for peace sells was used as the MTV News sound at one time

"The opening bassline was also used as the theme for MTV News. "

that is entirely inaccurate. not sure if you were listening to the radio in 1991 but ratm's *killing in the name* received heavy heavy radio rotation + they toured big time both contributed substantially to their rise.

Altheon 09-17-2008 12:08 PM

Rust in Piece was a damn good CD. Interesting side note I took a dance class with Marty's wife. I saw him once at a local Salsa club busting out some Latin moves.

CDSmith 09-17-2008 12:14 PM

Maybe it's not the lyrics but something in the video that get's the ban? I don't know, I'm asking. I don't watch MTV or Canada's MuchMusic stations, and I've never been a fan of music videos from the start.

MTV can ban whatever they want for all I care. Let me know if any metal albums become banned by the government and illegal to own or listen to. Then I'll have something to be pissed and up in arms about.

ok, I concede on that point, I shouldnt have even used RATm as example regarding mtv making a band popular, thats fine. But they have some political stuff and it is not banned, THAt was the point I was making, not about what blew them up.

RATM is not my specialty. I just used them because they are hugely popular and all about politics...

System of a Down isn't banned either as far as I know and they are in the same boat as RATM.
