Is your PC too loud? Solutions...
My Win98 finally fucked up bad (virus I think) -- so I decided to go to XP and upgrade some hardware... I got this nice HD from a friend free, we spent several hours installing software on it... I get the machine to my house and fuck if that HD is a whining bitch...
Wheeeeeeerrrreeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmm.... You get the idea. So today I went to the hardware store and designed and built a very nice box about 6' tall x 1' x 1' -- I got my stereo, PC, and speakers on it... My plan is to have the desktop in a carpeted compartment (usually seems to stop the noise) with a hinged door on the front w/ some ventilated masonite in the back... I'm going to try to finish it tonight -- I need some hinges, sandpaper, some orange stain, etc... It should look cool when I'm done -- I'll post some pics... |
What are you going to do when yous pc crashes due to lack of ventilation? But if you put vent holes in then youre letting noise out... :2 cents:
|
just watch the temp....

My Pinto was was one noisey car.
When I installed wall to wall carpeting (literally on the walls and roof) the noise was filtered. Carpet technique works. |
yeah really its going to melt. are you sure its mounted good?
|
just buy some long cables for monitor/keybord and stuff .. and locate your pc into another room ...
btw: I am still laughing about that pinto story ... |
Well the back of the box should be ventillated enough, plus there will be all that carpet on the top, bottom, and 3 walls in absorb sound... if I had only known this damn thing would be so annoying I would have just got a quiet drive but now it's too late I have invested too much time setting up this drive hehe...
Maybe I should have got that Mac with no fans hehe... |

You're kidding me right??? You don't love the white noise???
I'm never gotten better sleep than in my last companies server room.... got to love the white noise 300+ servers and a couple 400's can put out! And no I wan't fired. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh |
Use WD40.

Like others have said, good luck leaving the door closed. There's a way around this though, and it worked for me when I wanted to keep my compartment door closed. Without doing this it got mega hot in there even with the back bottom half of the compartment wide open.
I had a small fan about 5" in diameter sitting behind my desk with a tube attached to it (made of garbage bag plastic and tape) that ran to the front of the compartment up next to the PC's intake fan. This small fan I used made no noise at all, and it put out a decent amount of air. |
