Anyone been to Kaesong, North Korea?

Do you know if you can go it alone or do you have to go with an organized group?

I can't find much info on this and want to head up there when I'm in S Korea in a couple of weeks.

Thanks.

I believe you have to go in a group with "chaparone" and the whole enchilada. Post pics/stories if you go there.

JamesK 10-15-2008 01:34 AM

I'll go with you

It's looking like it has to be done in a group. Check this out:

[Banned items list and other regulations]

① Mobile phones and other communications devices are not permitted.
You should keep your moblile at ASAN Resting Place when you issue the ID.
When the tour will be finished, you can get that back.

Cameras with telephoto lenses of more than 160mm and binoculars with zooming capabilities of 10 times or more are banned.

All electronic equipment must be checked at ASAN Resting Place before departing for North Korea. If it is not good enough to bring into the North, you'll have to leave at ASAN Resting Place and it will be kept safe until return from the tour. This includes all cameras, battery chargers, PDAs, notebook computers, calculators & CDP, and MP3 players. (If it doesn't have a recording system, you can bring MP3 player).

② Newspapers and magazines from South Korea aren?t permitted. You are allowed to bring personal reading material but please take the subject matter into consideration.

③ You must ALWAYS wear your ID (you will get this before you arrive in NK) around your neck. You will be fined 100USD if it lost or damaged.

④ You should carry your passport and ID with you at all times.

⑤ You are not permitted to bring alcohol, but bring some foods into North Korea.
There are some shops where you can buy alcohol and foods in North Korea.

⑥ Washing hands and/or feet is not allowed in the fresh water springs (fine is $15).
Also, please be aware of the NO SMOKING areas and do not leave cigarette butts on ground.

⑦ Do not take any natural objects(such as rocks and sea shells)

⑧ Only US dollars and credit cards are accepted(You can use KRW at some places).

⑨ There are many large rocks with engraving done by the government. Do not touch or lean on these rocks.

⑩ You may speak with the North Korean people that you meet, but you may not take random pictures of them, including pictures from inside the bus. In addition, please be careful of the conversation topics when speaking with North Koreans.
DO NOT talk about politics, diplomatic relations, economics and other such sensitive issues.

:helpme

How in the hell do they expect me to get on GFY and check my porno mail from there?

I can't find any hooker info. :upsidedow

Those broke North Koreans should be quick to sell of their wives, sisters and daughters though. I mean, who doesn't want to be bred by a handsome American?

Believe me you dont want to go to N. Korea....

~Ray 10-15-2008 04:20 AM

south korea was fun, but they did not allow active Navy into N Korea. I always imagined it as a quiet place.

After Shock Media 10-15-2008 04:24 AM

Wow at least "some" places sell food.

polle54 10-15-2008 04:31 AM

I think they have some sort of cap saying no more than 1000 people can visit each year... they are pretty insane when it comes to this.. and it's guided tours, you are not allowed to take pictures in the country, only in the cities

Bah. I was told the same thing about Cuba and that turned out to be a wonderful little island.

I know N Korea is no paradise by any means but it's there and I do want to see it. I'm a pretty intrepid traveler and poor conditions and "scary" or dangerous places do not bother me.

I doubt North Korea is going to cause problems for tourists so long as you follow their rules. I did read that they shot some lady and killed her a while back but she wondered into an area she was not supposed to be in.
