Florida Keys Tootsies

For those who've driven from Miami to Key West, have you ever gotten freaked out driving down that Inter coastal Highway, or whatever it's called.

While I have crossed the Mackinaw Bridge, which is like 5 miles long. I have to admit that I found that trip kinda freaky. Maybe it was just because of the ocean. It was a nice trip, but on the way BACK from Key West was worse.

I was coming home in a rain storm, and there was construction. At points, it was like pitch black with just you, and the ocean and gulf.

Definitely a unique experience.

Fucking wild that you mention it,

I was thinking about that just the other night and thanking god I wasn't killed on the way home.

It was raining for me too, and I had family members in the car.. Honestly could have wound up being on the news for a fatal car crash.

One of the scariest things I have seen to date, it was impossible to see, the road seemed narrow as hell, I really thought at any second I could veer off and die.

Good one.

That is EXACTLY how I felt.

There were patches where it was pitch black. No other cars on the road. The rain was pouring, and the wind kicking. Occasionally you would see the Mexicans packing up their shit on the old tressle but you would go stretches in between the 'keys' where is was crazy.

Then you would hit those construction areas, and I remember one of them was curvy. So you had to slow down big time, and the rain, and dark.....

I was just reviewing some vacation pictures and was reflecting back on that. Funny how my I tensed back up.

I was kinda nervous on the way down to Key West in the nice weather. That whole gulf, and wide open Atlantic thing I guess... But that ride back had me white knuckled.

Thats called 7 mile bridge.

Try crossing that fucker when a hurricane is coming in. Now thats a HOT experience.

And that road is US1

Totally,

I had my ass clenched the entire time, and it was incredibly dark out.

The rest of my family was asleep in la la land, while I was trying to not get us killed.

Something I would NOT want to do again, for sure.. very hard to see.

By far the scariest drive I have ever been witness to, thank god I was sober.

Yeah. It ranks up there with one of the scariest in memory.

I mean, I am used to Michigan winters. Driving on black ice, white out conditions, flogged up windows. Drove through Detroit, and Cali bad neighborhoods. Been hydroplaning in flash floods....

That experience on the way back, in the dark, from Key West, ranks above dat shit.

Thats actually one of my favorite places to drive. Wouldn't be so fun if it was raining hard though....

Never been that far south. Went to Florida twice for the Redneck Getaway. I felt like when I was getting off the plane the stewardess threw a warm wet blanket over me, and said, "Welcome to Florida!"

the outter banks in NC are like that too..... honestly not too bad ;) My least favorite driving experience was actually a year or so ago with heavy rainstorms and listening to the radio about tonados ALL around me somewhere between chatanooga and nashville during a night that had an absolutely insane number of tornadoes, I was driving straight through from FL to MI that night!
