Taking up Spanish..

I am pondering if I should go latin american spanish or european spanish, what do you guys think?

I read this article http://spanish.about.com/cs/historyo.../varieties.htm but still cannot decide.

I think I would go Latin American Spanish. But I also live close to Latin America.

How many countries speak European Spanish?

Whichever you choose, people in either Spanish speaking country will understand you :) just the way it is with English

Latin American = Hotter and warmer women ...

onno 10-16-2008 10:59 PM

just learn spanish doesnt matter from where... there is no one latin american spanish... each country is different... if you speak spanish you wont have problems in latin america or spain... it the same thing...

like if you say you wanna learn english, but not sure if from england, the states or canada... english is english everywhere... same thing happens to spanish

the only way to really get fluent is to immerse yourself, so where are you most likely going to be able to immerse yourself? do you get european spanish tv in your area or american? will you be more likely to live in California or Centro America vs. Spain?

Hinc 10-17-2008 05:20 AM

Hmmm im trying to learn spanish in Spain...so here its a given - but its not that difficult really so far.

The Duck 10-17-2008 06:51 AM

Okay then I think im going with euro spanish then since im in europe.

chupachups 10-17-2008 06:56 AM

Euro spanish is what you should learn, and anyway euro/latin spanish isnt your concern but the dialect. Some south american countries have an absolute awful dialect, and some have a very clean "castillano" which is what you should go for.
