How many African Children could you save?
 

The television says it's about $30 a month to provide food, shelter and schooling to one African child.

If you were to cut out luxuries from your life, just live a relatively basic life, how much money could you easily save each month? Divide that by 30 and that's how many African children you choose not to save each month.


It's fun, I'll start! If I were to drive a base model car, not have a motorcycle, not have multiple gym memberships, not have dogs, live in a one bedroom apartment and not eat out whenever I feel like it I'd save roughly $3000 a month.

I'm currently NOT saving 100 children a month.

WarChild -- you mentioned you're NOT saving ~100 kids (but could). How many kids' asses could you take on and beat? So now, in my lame Sunday state, I want to know if the number of kids one could save is directly proportional to the number of kids one could take on.

WELL, if you sent over $3,000 in condoms, I'm not sure how much they cost because I haven't needed them in years, but say .50 per condom, that's 6,000 children you could save from being brought into the horrible conditions over there :)

That's one thing I'll never understand about those fucking ignorant people. They have very little food or water, horrible housing, poor clothes, but yet they sure find the strength to fuck, not pull out, and have more kids.

I can only guess as to how many I'm "not" saving per month (largely because that's all I'm willing to do---guess), however I have and do give to certain charities that support such causes in Africa, helping children etc. That has to count for something.

but what I really want to know is what are the governments of those nations doing to help their children? I seem to recall growing up in the late 60's and early 70's and seeing a lot of ads and commercials on TV asking people in N America to help the starving people/children in Africa. Here we are circa 40 years later and not much at all has changed with that.

Some of those countries have been countries for centuries longer than many modern 1st world nations (esp. US and Canada) yet they can't seem to "develop". They could start by using condoms but since the people over there are ultra religious they won't use contraception, we have the Pope to thank for that.

So give give give.

the more fucked up shit is, the more important family/children become... for the survival of the tribe. its not like they retire and collect social security and medicaid pays for everything... they have to rely on family for their very survival.

i would fuck their shit up. i would have to work up to that since my previous record is beating up 27 five year old kids. but then again, who knows. it was a pretty decisive win for me... one that i could feel really good about.

Probably the same as you... about 100 of them. I need my money tho, it wont last forever so I need to protect my own future first.

I work hard for the luxuries I have in life - two jobs totaling 16 hrs/day. My wife works another 40 hour/week job despite being on chemotherapy for lupus and cortizone injections for degenerative rhumatoid arthritis. Some days she hurts so bad she can barely walk to the car to drive to work - but she does - year after year...without complaint.

We give to selective domestic charities throughout the year - ones that we know make constructive and worthwhile use of the money (Arthritis Foundation, Salvation Army, Easter Seals and local women's shelters).

I still remember the results of the LiveAid benefit in 1985 where $285 million was raised and a large percentage fell into the hands of NGOs and warlords and never even reached the citizens.

Tell me again why I should give up those luxuries to send money to a country that will NEVER elevate itself from being recipients of handouts, generation after generation.
