Any good salad recommendations?

If you are making your salad at home, please recommend me a few light and tasty ones. I like fish e.g. smoked salmon, cheese, raw veggies, mayo is not a must.. just ran out of ideas for now.

Really tired right now and eyes burning.
Quickly I would say both pears and apples are in season. They both go very well with dried cranberries, dried cherries, or even fresh pomegranate seeds. All those fruits also go very well with walnuts. Dairy wise I know either a goat cheese or a blue cheese would fit in. I would go with a more peppery lettuce like arugula. If you wanted a little cooked chicken and or some sliced shallot or purple onion. Hm I imagine some cooked beets would also fit in if cut into small pieces. Would more than likely choose a simple dressing of olive oil, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.

OK I think my imagination just petered out with that final burst of thinking.

Lately I have been experimenting with hot salads where I cook up some veggies and mix that with cold lettuce and dressing. For example, I do some mushrooms and onions in a pan with some garlic and maybe some other veg and them mix them up with cold lettuce and tomatoes and a dressing (I like light honey mustard at the moment) and it has actually been really nice.

That sounds delicious...... i prefer cold salad though I really like that light honey & mustard dressing with my cold salads. Its amazingly good.

Who'da thought honey and mustard would go so well together :1orglaugh

You gotta try the nopalitos salad. It's one of my favorites.
I prepare one very similar to the one in this recipe, but without the cheese. (I'll try the cheese next time)

Sarah,

I'd even eat raw mushrooms chopped and put some lemon juice on it if needed so they remain fresh looking. Great tips and the base is lettuce. ASM has fantastic ideas always... and i have to try the nopalitos yet :)

I got a good salt and spice mix from someone, it is pretty fine, see nahrin, aka nahrin.ch for gewuerze-mehrsalz, http://www.nahrin.ch/htm/produkte/Gewuerze at the bottom, mmm, tasty. A little olive oil, lemon juice and all's good to go.

I will eat mushrooms in just about any way possible. They are my favorite food. I agree that cold salads are usually best but I have so many of them it is nice to mix things up a bit now and then.

I always make the same sald.. for lettuce its baby spinach.. then chop or slice up organic red onions and tomatoes and maybe cucumber... I also like olives chopped up in there, sometimes canned artichokes... sometimes a boiled egg. Sometimes I like to sprinkle it with chopped salami or blue cheese or ham.

I like to make my own dressing, extra virgin olive oil mixed with wine vinegar, mustard, salt, pepper.. the olive oil is good for you and it taste much better than bottled dressing...

my favorite is baby lettuce, vine ripe tomatoes, and homemade dressing.

I use the juice of one lemon, white vinegar, red vinegar, dijon mustard, and garlic. I blend that smooth with a hand held immersion blender, and then blend in the olive oil. Extra virgin.

A bit of salt (the dijon is salty), and with the ripe tomato juice all over the well tossed lettuce it is so delicious.

My French grandmother taught me all her salad secrets. The French eat their salad after the main course (at least my family does), and I can't live without eating salad often. My body starts to crave it, I don't feel as healthy without fresh greens.

tomato, cucumber, capsicum, lettuce, cheese a little salt, olive oil, maybe a little vinegar and an egg fierd cut and there, some pressed ham .. bon appetit

Mm garlic, I love it, it is so healthy and tasty :) and the hard boiled egg is filling you up.
The French and Italian cousine have the best salads and they always serve them separately because they can be so delicious.
