linking to dead links, bad or nevermind?

hello everyone. sorry if this is so newbie question or was answered before, but i dont know so want to ask. today i was checking some of my sites year or so old and found that there are some links to sites or fhgs which are dead or parked domains. i want to ask if linking to dead sites is making my site looking bad to search engines? i have many old sites where its nice se traffic but those are not at my cms system so its pain in ass to go through all of them and update the links. so, do i have to remove the link or search engines do not care? thank you much for any reply and sorry for my bad english. wish you luck with your sites everyone! :thumbsup

your surfers will care, they click one dead link, then another, then figure fuck it and will move on to some other site...

I don't think you'll find an "official" answer, or even one backed by real proof, BUT, I can see how linking to dead or redirecting sites may give a "neglected" feel...

thank you for replies, its right that surfers will not be happy. so now will be boring removing, lets see if search engines will be sending more traffic also :) thanks and wish you best with your sites :thumbsup
