Apple iPhone vs. Google G1. Clash of the TITANS! Who will win in the long run?

I've been amazed at the loyalty & pleasure I have seen in the people that have been using the iPhone since it hit the market. Apple seems to have developed more of a culture than just a customer base but will it be enough for them to hold off the the giant GOOGLE? I have been waiting to see what GOOGLE was going to come out with featuring their Android operating system but as a satisfied Verizon customer I was VERY disappointed when they made their choice of mobile carriers :Oh crap

"... the first phone to run on Google's Android operating system, the T-Mobile G1, hit stores last month."

The main drawback that I currently see is that GOOGLE has chosen T-Mobile as it's carrier which is one of the weakest in the market whereas APPLE partnered with the giant AT&T. The other problem is that many users must wait until their current 2 year contracts are up to make a change without incurring early cancellation fees.

"Tech writer Erick Schonfeld said that both phones mark a quantum leap forward for the mobile experience. The table stakes have just been raised. From now on, phones need to be nearly as capable as computers," he wrote for TechCrunch.com. "All others need not apply."

To that end, the battle between the two products may not come down to how well their casings are designed, but how well strong their operating systems are and how powerful their applications are.

WAIT! That's not all. Motorola has now jumped in the game and is working on the first Android Social Smart Phone...

"Motorola is betting $50 million on the popularity of social networking to carry its next marquee product: A mobile phone powered by Google?s Android operating system.

In the struggle for supremacy over the mobile markets, Google has an advantage over Apple. While Steve Jobs' empire has dispatched both its hardware and software teams on the mighty iPhone, Google has simply provided developers with the powerful new Android mobile OS.

T-Mobile built the first Android phone, and now Motorola has its sights set on the second quarter of 2009 for the release of the Android Social Smart Phone."

Advantage GOOGLE??? What do you think?

You would think google had the win but the reviews I read so far were fair at best.

Short term iphone continues winning.
Long term G1 will eventually dominate.

One would think Apple had learned that an open to programmers and multiple platform operating system will fuck up any proprietary electronic and system.

Apple fan boys can be excluded, as they would buy anything good ole Steve and crew craps out even if in order to operate a given device required them to insert it in their ass or rape their grandma.

Easily the G1 as it is now open source. This means that anyone and everyone can contribute and make it grow. Not just with applications but as an application.

Apple... you can't even change the battery.

True, look how much more marketshare Linux has on the desktop than, say, Windows.

Oh, hang on a minute...

I'm not an Apple fan, but G1 is ugly as fuck. I don't care if its open source, its fucking ugly and huge. Perhaps with another model they would dominate the market, but not with this paddle

Absolutely a culture.

Between

G1
Iphone
Blackberry Storm

I'd about call the market locked for years to come. Especially with the carriers they're sitting on.

I love my iphone.

Thinking wrong way.
Restate that and ask yourself how many Apple computers are in use versus how many IBM clones (PC's) running Windows. Remember Windows was an operating system open to programers to make applications, Apple was closed.

Exactly. It was also a very different time when Windows came out.
How many linux developers were there around to make a real competition out of it? Hmm...

The phone is ugly as shit, you'd have to be some sort of dork to get it

aico 10-22-2008 10:28 AM

iPhone will continue to dominate, there is no doubt. AT&T sucks balls, but if you could pick only one carrier that sucks balls harder, it would be T-Mobile.

i dont know, i think apple may have it for a while.

first, its goign to be hard to pull current iphone customers away from their phone and move to something that does not support itunes. second, the G1 is on tmobile, which is a shitty network IMO.

i went out this morning and bought the phone. i was stuck in a tmobile contract anyway, so i bought the phone then im going to cancel the service, so why not see the hype. the phone looks cool, but the sliding thing is annoying and i can see it to be like tmobiles MDA which was a piece of crap.

JP-pornshooter 10-22-2008 10:34 AM

i-phone users are as much into the aesthetics as they are into the raw tech part, perhaps even more..
having looked at the G1, it looks like a small notebook, i doubt any i-phone users would be seen lugging it around.
(i am not an i-phone user either btw)
